Prom dress

I've found a prom dress which is the right colour but don't know about size. I'm 5'6 and 40-38-45 so should I get a uk 18 (43, 35.5, 45)? I'll lose several pounds and will have spanx so I may be a few inches smaller. Or should I go a size up/down?

Can you not get more than one size and return the ones that don't fit?

That would be my suggestion as well, either try it on and make sure it fits when you buy it, or order more than one and pick the one that fits best, then send the other ones back.

I find buying stuff without trying it extremely difficult since, despite the sizing system, every item of clothing seems to have different measurements. My pants size for example is anywhere between a UK 22 and a UK 28, depending on where I get the stuff from.
