Problems with graphics driver for vista

I downloaded Dungeon Keeper 2. It's a game, and I love it :p However, when I run it, I come to the first screen, then it crashes. I think it's a graphics driver issue. I got NVIDIA GeForce 7000M / nForce 610M and I'm on windows vista home premium. I can't find a driver that I can install anywere  I've tried downloading tons, but none of them works on my operating system for some reason. There seems to be only two alternatives to choose, vista 32 bit and vista 64 bit. I got 32 bit, but it wont work. I'm getting really annoyed here. Anyone got any idea?

I found something that says it should be fine if you're running Vista with Windows 2000 compatibility mode on. So, the question is...do you have that on or is it an 'always on' setting in Vista?

Oh...and 32 bit.

Well I've tried just about everything. I'm now gonna try to get my hands on a win98 cd (I'll probobly download it and burn an image) to use in a virtual PC thingy..

Yes, it could be a Video driver causing this issue. However, it could be another configuration issue: Like a sound card driver, or another driver causing this issue. Somewhere within the game folder there should be a text file indicating the load flow, and should stipulate the loading to the point of the error. Or there could be another text file in the windows temp folder.

How much RAM is installed on this machine with Windows Vista? What sort of swap file do you have set up?

At the RUN command, type: Msconfig

Shut down all programs, that are starting at boot, with the exception of windows BASED (microsoft) driver components. and reboot. Clean this out, if you havent already----just temporarily, you can turn them back on later.

Update your Direct X. At the RUN command, type: dxdiag

This wil bring up the Direct X control panel. Make sure they are working properly.

Direct X has to be operational for this game (as in all games in windows)

Just ensure its functional with no errors listed.

I have installed the latest soundcard driver. Its 2gb ram. I don't know what a swap file is :p

And the thing with Vista is, I don't know where the run command is :s
It's not where it is on 2k and XP..

This text file you speak of. What names should I look for to see which one it is?

I am sure there is a solution, while you are looking for it, here is what some of my gamer friends are saying.

A lot of games that were made to work on XP or earlier OS systems will not work on Vista. Something about the way Vista runs things. New games that are coming out are written specifically for Vista.

If you have Vista Set up normally and havent shut off any settings for "appearance" it should be nearly the same as XP, not quite but close.

Select the Start button, and RUN should be staring right at you after "Log off, "name".

Right click my computer and select properties. Select the "advanced system settings", then "Settings", and then "Advanced" at near the bottom should disaplay the swap file size.

and, yes its true, some games will not work in Vista, but this doesnt not include all. On the microsoft web site the do have a list of older games that will not work with vista.........its largely due to the way Vista handles memory, it is different than with XP.

2 gb is satisfactory.

The text file come in many different names dependent on the game. But, usually its in the folder that has the executable. It could be in word format (if you have word installed as usually, not always, the installer when you installed the game, will default to this format type)

I knew there was a reason behind it. :D

can't find anything that says swap size. But I get some virtual memory which is 2090mb.

And the Run button still isen't anywhere to be found :s

And Dungeon Keeper II is on the list of games that should work with vista. That's why I keep thinking it's a graphics driver issue. I still haven't been able to find a graphics driver that will install..

Swap file was the word used in XP, Sorry. But really its the same thing in Vista, but its called "Virtual". Yes this is it.........This is good.

"Virtual memory" is used when Vista runs out of "Main Memory". For example, your running a game that needs alot of memory (alot of games needs loads of memory), and Vista will give what it can, but when it runs out, it will "swap out to the hard drive or allow hard drive space to be used in its place".

If this is too small, and main memory is also used, it can prevent a game from loading, and this is why I had you check it. some older games, simply require a swap file.

Hey, I have an idea.

Righ click the game icon (the short cut that starts the game). a window will appear.

Then select the compatability tab

select xp

try to start the game.

its worth a shot..........sometimes this works sometims not

If it didnt work, unselect, and bring it back to the point it was.

I want Karky.........gaming it up.........dang it! lol

Im an old fart, and I game....and ..Kick dat....uh,,,,,,better not.....say that..... :)
