Hi there,

I'm having a huge problem with my diet, I can't control myself from eating even when I'm super motivated, I'm 16 it's a lifelong habit and if I just controlled my eating I'd be losing the weight in a few months...I just don't know what to do, it's not easy to say stop and I don't want to wait until I'm morbidly obese. :( ... Will an appointment with a dietician help?

HI!
Well, I'm sure it would help, sure. No one here is a doctor, so I'm sure his/her advice would be great.

The only thing I can tell you, is sometimes telling yourself you can't have a certain food OR that you can't eat anymore, really just makes you crave food even more. When I get hungry and I"m at my cal limit, I have a big glass of water and some sugar free gum (the chewing seems to make me feel like i"ve eaten, lol) OR you can have some fruit, fruits sometimes considered a zero calorie food. You can have um......Oh! my favorite is a big bowl of sugar free jello! its only 40 cals for the whole package, 2 cups!

how many calories a day are you currently eating?

eating because you're hungry is normal.

at 16 your body is growing and changing and developing and needs calories.

what are your current stats?

What are you usually eating through out your day? You might try to eat more frequently in smaller amounts as that can help you control hunger. When you know you will be getting more food in a few hours, it can also give you the psychological boost to not binge.

If you are absolutely famished (and what 16 year old isn't ...), try to stick to whole, unprocessed foods - lean proteins, fresh veggies and fruits and whole grains, and small amounts of unsaturated fats such as olive oil or natural peanut butter. Empty carbs (baked goods, candy, chips, soda, and other junk food) actually create more cravings and can leave you still feeling hungry because they don't have the filling power of protein and fiber.

There is nothing wrong with eating a late evening snack as long as the food is healthy and wholesome, and as long as you aren't going to crazy extremes (eating a whole turkey at one sitting or something silly like that).

Here's one of my favorite late night snacks -

1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese, 1 peach sliced thin, 1 tsp cinnamon, 3 sticks celery on the side - if you want something to crunch.

Yum :)

God Bless,
mik

Food is my passion.

What I find works for me is drinking lots of water. Not only is water healthy for you, it fills you up. I hate when I can't eat anymore because I'm so full, but of course, it's due to the water consumption. Don't get me wrong, I still eat a good portion but I consume less calories in the end. Chewing gum and sucking on hard candy works too.
