Sport Preworkout meal

Hi all,

I have been working out after work for over a year, and it usually consists of 500 to 700 calories burned running, spinning, or elliptical. It has worked well eating a small lunch at about 1 and starting my workout at about 5pm.

Well things are changing... I am going to graves so I will be working from 9pm to7am then going to bed. Once I get up, 3 or 4pm I need something I can eat that will give me enough carbs that I can workout still, and lose weight (Which is something I want to do on Graves).

I have heard that working out on an empty stomach will help lose weight, but I am afraid I will not have the energy to workout hard...

Is there a balance?

I have heard mixed reviews on exercse on an empty stomach. Some say it works as they feel less weighed down, others say it puts additional pressure on your adrenlyn glands, produces more stress hormone and puts your body in starvation mode so that when you do eat, your body is ready to store what you do eat as fat "for next time" it thinks your in a famine. Your body is not interested in losing weight, only keeping you alive.

I'd say keep what you eat to a bulk-minimum yes, the last thing you need is to feel bloated, but you do need some fuel if your doing a proper workout. I know its a bit of a cop out but what about protein bars and shakes? they are fairly small yet can be quite nutritious- obviously not as nutritious as if you were eating the foods in real form but its better then nothing/junk right?

I tend to eat nothing the first hour before I work out (rarely a protein bar or drink some caffiene) but always take on some water (about 500mls). I eat just after I've finished a yogurt. (Plain, fat free) I have no idea if I am losing weight (my clothes feel the same but I do eat much more at night) but I can say it deals with my appetite so I am less likely to want to eat more and more. I used to finish a workout and just eat fruit, maybe an apple and/or a fruit salad but I was always left wanting to re-eat the whole thing again! So recommend protein both before and after your workout.

Am no expert, just saying that it worked for me.
