Presidential Inauguration 2009

What did you all think about the inauguration today?? :patriot: I know that I have NEVER been so interested in an election/inauguration in my life! I am so happy for the Obama family and the nation as well! I don't know what it is about this family that has caught the interest of the American people like they have. I heard them refer to Obama as carrying on the Kennedy legacy. I couldn't agree more.

OH, and did you hear that they were boo'ing Bush and singing that "hey hey" song? While I can't stand Bush and I have to admit, I was slightly humored when I heard that....at the same time, how very disrespectful! He might not have been a great president...but he was our president for 8 yrs and deserves more than to be boo'ed at.

Anyways, I hesitated to post this as it is a "hot button" topic....but I trust that the members of the forum will be able to respect each others differences w/o any personal/verbal attacks....

no one has an opinion??

I'm happy Obama won over McCain (relieved is the most accurate word), but our country is in pretty bad shape. The last 8 years aren't the only reason we are in such dire circumstances. It just compounded the situation. One president isn't going to be able to fix things. I think at best he can set things in motion. I hope that 8 years from now we are in much better shape, but its going to take a lot.

The problem isn't even so much the government and its administration as it is the people who live in our country in general. The amount of change needed to really fix things is impossible with the world how it is right now. Until more people start thinking rationally and drop their superstitions and start making choices based on actual facts and logical thinking we are going to keep going down hill. It goes beyond the financial situation and the war in Iraq.

Remember, 4 years ago people re-elected Bush. That means people voted for him. A lot of people. That means, regardless of approval ratings, people still preferred to have him in office. McCain didn't lose because of his stance on the issues. He lost because he ran a horrible, horrible campaign. I mean do I even need to mention his running mate? Bush is a joke, but people still preferred him over that idiot Kerry. The democrats got lucky this year. Obama ran a good campaign. He beat out better candidates because he ran the better campaign (I don't mean McCain here -- don't think for a second I thought he was a better candidate).

I think Obama is compentant. He's intelligent. Thats a plus. Still, look at who he chose to come to his inaguration. A bigoted hate spreading preacher. Thats a kick to the face to a lot of Americans. Giving that shit more publicity and credibility was an idiotic thing to do.

Well, I wasn't so sure about Obama a few months ago. Mostly I didn't agree with some of his economic policies. However, he seems to have backed off on that since being inaugurated, and since our economy was royally flushed down the toilet.

Michelle & Obama's dance was so sweet and she really looked great. I loved Obama's speech. I swear I don't actually mind listening to him talk, which was definitely a struggle for me with Bush.

I look forward to seeing what Obama is going to do for this country. I caught his commentary on shutting down Guantanamo bay in the gym yesterday. What does everyone think of this? I can see how it will make us look better in the transnational community, but... I worry about the displacement of some very serious criminals.

Oh, and in response to the last post. I have to agree. 'I can see Russia from my house!' Oh Palin and all that media coverage. Hilarious. I'm so glad she's not VP. I think I'd have to move to CAN.

oh I hear ya! I HATED listening to Bush talk! Obama has always given me the impression that he's really thinking and responding as opposed to just reading off some "cue card"

I also loved watching them dance, they seem so in love still :D

I'm not sure how I feel about them shutting down GBay....where are they gonna put the "terrorists" that currently occupy it???
