  • Cereals and Grains. Rice, Pasta, Pizza, Breads, anything made of flours of any type noodles, pancakes, cakes, cookies.
  • Starchy vegetables. Potatoes, Carrots, Beans, Peas, Pumpkin.
  • Sugars except in those you eat as part of natural fruits. No Coke, No sugar in your coffee, Fruit juices.
  • Milk, Creams and things containing them (puddings). Except low fat yogurt.
  • Commercial sauces and dressing.
  • Alcohol of all types. Zero!
  • Any drinks containing sugars, Soft drinks, Fruit Juices. Natural sugar or added it doesn’t matter, all sweet drinks!
  • Fats, Oils, Butter, Margarine. No fried anything. No fat on any meats, no chicken skin.
  • Hard rich aged cheeses. Such as Vintage Cheddar, Edam, Gouda, Emmental
  • Chocolate!!!!
  • Ice-cream!!!!
  • Stay out of fast food shops.

Focus Consumption of the Following
  • Lean Meats (no fat), Fish, Prawns.
  • Tofu
  • Eggs (not many not often, one or two per day)
  • Green leafy vegetables. Spinach, Baby leaf, Lettuces
  • Tomatoes Celery and Asparagus, Onions (including leeks and spring onions)
  • Mushrooms
  • Diet soft drinks, coffee and teas are ok in reasonable amounts without milk or cream.
  • Fruits eg Apples, Citrus such as Orange Lemon, Stone fruits such as peaches, Mangos.
  • Natural Vinegars
  • Soft fresh cheeses in limited amounts. eg Mozarella, Feta, Cottage, Phillidelphia, Ricotta.
  • Limited amounts of crackers or flat breads such as pita bread.

Tips
  • Studies have shown that increasing the amount of protein in your diet and decreasing the carbohydrates help you to reduce your weight and reduce your hunger/satiety. An example sized meal for a lady on Cohens may be a 110grams lean steak with 105grams of non starchy vegetables a man may be given a 125gram chicken with 125grams non starchy vegetables...this is not a big meal!
  • Eat a protein breakfest yogurt, omelet with non starchy vegitables, fruit; no starches of any kind (toast, corn flakes)
  • Just have one kind of meat in a meal or one kind of fish or tofu.
  • Don’t eat starchy carbs with proteins (meats, fish, tofu) only eat meats with non-starchy vegetables. Actually just don’t eat starchy food period!
[*]Cohens program limits carbohydrates of all types, only a 4 or 6 crackers per day.
[*] I believe following the diet (Australian goverment science labs), would also be a ideal lead into the Cohens diet. On

Blimey LF,

Were you bored today???

What a fantastic post!

Are ya on the Cohen's payroll yet ;)

asy :D

I just wanted to Bump this! I found it today as I was browsing! This is essentially what I did before I "Officially" started my program and boy did it help me BIG TIME! I havent had cravings and or headaches associated with the program etc. I have actually found getting into routine quite easy.

I get a bit worried for people who might decide to have one last "binge" before starting on the program... because then it is such a shock to the system and then all the "forbidden" foods are so fresh in the mind!

Bless ya
Kath

Hi, thanks for all that info-exactly what l was looking for! I am going for my blood test tomorrow so not to long to go until l receive my program.
Does anyone there have cravings for bread whilst on cohens? It seems to be a very strict program and l have been wondering how people go after they've achieved their goal weight? Do you still steer clear of bread, pasta etc?

Dwali- I have been on Cohen's since 22/01/07. I used to eat lots of bread & now realise that was probably my biggest problem. I make home-made bread for my husband, & I don't crave it or anything else at all. The program changes how you feel towards food & re-trains your brain. It is truly amazing! I am not quite at goal but know that Cohen's provide us with the tools to keep our weight off. I don't want to ever be fat again & will follow the basic guidelines that they will give me. All the best & congrat's for making the decision to start the program, cheers, Cate

This is a great thread.
I have had my blood test now and am just waiting for my results.

I do have some questions tho so i can prepare my kitchen.

1) What spices can i use in my food and am i limited on how much i can use.
2) What vitamins should i be using?
3) Can i drink Tea and Coffee with no sugar or milk?
4) How much water should i be drinking?
5) Can i fry with minimal oil??

Thanks!!

Hi there. New member, absolutely first post. I have already signed up for the Cohen's diet but because of my current geographic location, I am unable to find a digital or an analogue scale to weigh my food. I don't even have weighing scales! I should have made sure that I had one before I did my blood test, and signed up.

However the clinic has accepted my request to start next month (when I am able to head to more civilized regions!), but in the meantime, I have started the programme (on my 4th day). Gauging weights is tricky and I have a suspicion that I am likely eating more than I should but even so, this is a drastic change from my normal diet (carbs carbs carbs!).

Drinking 3 litres of water per day has already kept my appetite in check - no more sugary drinks! Definitely think it's a good idea to try it out before you start as to lessen the shock. :)

Hey Dietgrrl and welcome to the forum!! The members on this forum are all amazing and if you are looking for support and advice you have definitely come to the right place!! I also only recently joined the forum and have had my ups and downs on cohens, but will be starting in Jan again 100%.

Where are you located that you cannot get to anything like that? Sound like somehwere very interesting :)

Good luck with the plan and think it is a good idea to start as a work up to the real thing and i'm sure you will still be ok with the guessing but you will see how amazing cohens is when you start it 100%. I know on the proteins and someone correct me if i'm wrong but a guestimate on portions for protien could be the size of your palm give or take a few grams...

Cheers
Angela

Dear Angela, thanks for your kind welcome! I currently live in rural Indonesia where they use brass weights in the market.

Already I have messed up on my pre-diet for taking green beans almost every day. Luckily I asked my consultant why it wasn't on the vegetable list and she said that because it contains carbs, it's only on the refeeding plan. Sigh. It's a good thing it doesn't count for now!

A quick question- I want to go see a nutritionist that analyses ur blood aswell and then give u injections/tablets for any shortages that ur body might need. Do I go to her first or to dr cohens clinic?

Can anybody help me with this plz?

Thank you very helpful...What would you say are good/healthy breakfats??
