Sport Pre and post workout foods!

Sport Fitness
Hey guys,

I looked through some of these threads so if someone answered this already, sorry!
Just wondering...I workout 6 days a week with variations of cardio and weights. I also eat about 5-6 small meals a day. My problem is that lately at the gym, I can't finish my workouts because I get too weak or lightheaded. I feel like I'm eating a TON but I'm wondering if it's not at the right times. How early should I eat before a workout and how late after? Also, what are some good things to eat beforehand so I don't cheap out halfway through? Tonight I did my cardio but as soon as I started doing lower body I had to leave cause I was getting shaky. I'm wondering if I have low blood sugar too...but that's another story.
If anyone could recommend some good pre workout foods and post workout foods, that would be spectacular!
THANKS!

Pre workout 1h to 1.5h - Complex carbs and some protein, oats, whole wheat bread, pasta, rice, eggs, chicken, turkey.

Post workout ASAP - Simple carbs and protein. Fruits and protein.

Make sure you are getting enough to eat....sometimes taking several small meals a day does not amount to 3 decent sized meals a day...the former is often more like picking as far as the body is concerned. How about some good supplements as well since especially you workout regularly..and of course drink enough of h20...allowing enough time for water/drink before you eat and after so the liquid doesn't interfere with gastric juices. Most of the time, depending on what you eat, it can take a half hour or and hour for digestion. I don't know if you are interested in food combining..but heres a few urls below.

(although some foods do not necessarily start digestion in the stomach..this site has info on basic digestion food times).

Also don't take any sort of stimulants with your pre workout meal. Avoid refinied carbs, sugar, caffiene etc. By the time you get to the gym your blood sugar level will have peaked and slumped again. If you want to take a stimulant pre work out do it just as you get there, but I personally don't think there's a need.

If your feeling weak and hungry during a workout try taking a banana with you and having a bite between each excercise. Have a gulp of water with the banana as well to aid absorbtion
