Powerblocks, which size should I get?

I am thinking about buying some Powerblock dumbbells. I want to spend the least amount as possible, but get something that will be what I need. I dont want to get buff, just toned and fit.

The Sport Powerblocks models are
3-24lbs - $149
5-50lbs - $299
2.5 - 55lbs - $359

also
.5-50lbs - $359
2.5-90lbs - $598
2.5-130lbs - $897

Seeing as you only want to tone up, I would suggest getting one of the smaller packages

I have a set of PowerBlocks and got the PowerBlocks that went to 90 lbs. They are great for most workouts, *BUT* you might be just as happy looking on Craig's list for some weights and bars.

You'd be surprised how cheap you can find some good equipment on there since money is a concern.....

The PowerBlocks entice me because of how much space they take up. A full weight set is a pain.

yeah, I hear ya, that is one of the reasons why we got them, BUT speaking from experience using them, they can be awkward for some exercises that with normal DB's aren't.

We *just today* bought a set of free weights (500+ lbs) with an olympic bar, a curl bar, and two dumbbell bars for $100 bucks off Craigs list....lol All in great shape. We just need to tree.

What you may want to do is look for Bowflex or PowerBlock sets offered on Craigs list. I saw the Bowflex select tech set today in my area, maybe you will get lucky where you are.......

Dude, go with IronMaster. I've had the 75 lb. and recently purchased the additional plates, which takes each dumbbell up to 120 lbs. And they're solid (and cheaper). Do some googling. You'll have a hard time finding any negative reviews.

I would suggest absolutely positively none of them. The prices on these are absolutely ridiculous. Go with a barbell and weight set that you can get for cheaper and use in different ways.

I know they take up more room, but I think they are better suited in general for most things anyway (at least the main lifts). I could never stomach paying this much for dumbbells anyway. For that price, you can get a gym membership for years.

Mostly agreed, actually. I'd start with a barbell set and, once you have the plates, you can always get some handles to make dumbbells. If you've got the space, plates or hexes work fine.

I ran out of room for hexes and with oly plates, the dbs get pretty cumbersome in size. I basically paid for adjustables by selling hexes on craigslist.
