Pounds per week

I know this question has been asked millions of times, but I am now confused. I know that myself and alot of others think that 1-2 pounds a week is safe weight loss. Then I met with a trainer who told me it's safe to lose 4 pounds a week . I've heard plenty of times that losing more than 1-2 pounds a week is unhealthy. I know that depending on the persons weight etc. everyone has a different outcome. But hearing this has made me think I could have been losing more without worrying about it becoming unhealthy. I really want to push for 4 pounds a week but I'm not sure if he was telling the truth or just trying to hype me up into hiring a personal trainer. What do you guys think?

trainer is wrong. for the extreme vast majority of the population about the best you can hope for is 1% of your total body weight lost in _fat_ a week. Give or take a bit depending on a lot of factors.

losing 4lbs a week of _weight_ though can easily be done. but it's not recommended.

Well, if you weight 400lbs, then 4lbs per week is reasonable and healthy. :)

Like Jynus said - 1% of your bodyweight per week is a healthy rate.

Sure you can push some weeks, especially when you're first starting out and your body is really adjusting. But eventually if you're doing it by eating too little and exercising too much, you'll stall out. Aim for the 1% - if you get more some weeks, yay. If you don't, it'll all average out. :)

Thanks, that's what I was thinking too. I weigh 208lbs. I have lost 98 pounds so far(deff. not starting out, lol). And I never try to lose weight by eating too little. So I guess I should just focus on my 1-2 pounds every week, huh?
