hi , joined the frum about a week ago , just realised that i was posting in womens health lol , anyway - whats the deal with potatoes? - ive been working hard riding 13 miles a day for 9 months or so , ive lost nearly a stone by doing this , my cal intake is about 1500-1700 a day but im never shure what to eat lol - i eat lots of fish like macrell and flat fish - tuna and sweetcorn sandweges , but i realised i do eat potatoes allot - so whats the deal with the old spuds? o and milk? do like milk but have cut it right down .

Whites potatoes are just considered high carbed, not much in em, and high GI. Sweet potatoes have many more better things in em and are generally just better for you, but they still have the high carb content. I dont advise eating a whole lot of them for dinner, but during the day is fine.

I don't know what anyone said about milk? 1% or skim milk i actually REALLY good for you, have as much as you like.

Oh and good on you for the weightloss.

sweet potatoes ar a little better, but there's nothing wrong with white potatoes. high GI, but if you're eating, say, a steak with it, the steak's protein and fat will lower the GI of the potato. it still digests fast though, and is more ideal for a post workout meal more than anything.

so, in moderation, its fine.
