Hi guys

This is my 1st time on here and I'm looking for your help already!!
I've just started Tim Ferriss's high protein, low carb diet from his book '4 hour body' I'm combining this with the 'Colorado Experiment' trainning programme from the book. Its day 4 and all is going great lost 6lbs already and feeling great no side effects and never feeling hungry!! only 46lbs to go till my goal weight lol

My question is about post workout drinks! I've always been told this is the 2nd most important meal of the day after breakfast and should contain carbs and protein at a 2:1 ratio along with creatine and L-Glutamine for muscle repair and Dextrose for an insulin spike. I'm concerned about how the carbs and Dextrose will effect the diet as they are both things to avoid for the diet to have its optimal effect!!

Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Many Thanks ;-)

I've heard that chocolate milk is one of the best post-workout drinks you can have.

A high protein diet is already generally high in naturally occurring dietary creatine and most people don't need to use it, L-Glutamine studies were done using an injected form, not the oral form which is used in supplements and does nothing but empty your wallet although it does occur naturally in milk if you feel you really need it and believe marketing hype. Dextrose is sugar which is a high GI carb and does help to quickly replenish depleted muscle glycogen which is important for recovery and avoiding the energy slump you will often feel after training.

even bodybuilders on low carb diets like PSMF will have carbs post workout and the carbs help the body make the most of the protein consumed at the same time.

so as lizzy said some chocolate milk is a great post workout drink or something as simple as a sandwich, you don't need anything fancy.
