Post workout drink

What do you guys/girls use for a post workout drink?

I've been using one scoop of whey protein (25g) and two tablespoons of maltodextrin (24g). Some suggest that you should use half dextros and half maltodextrin. What do you think?

thanks,

Kris

The proper ration of cabs to protein is 4:1. for every 4 carbs you should have 1 gram of protein. any more will cause dehydration is muscle tissue not significant but we need the liquid to flow nutrients to the muscle fast.

i actually started at a 3 to 1 ratio, i was gaining too much fat, so i cut it down to a 1 to 1 and have been good, still any suggestions of what people mix into their PWD

i'm not really concerned with hydration just if i should use half dextros and half maltodextrin, or just stick with the maltodextrine? or does it matter...

The only real difference is taste. Dextose is sweeter however both will give you a sufficient enough spike in insluin to start the repair/rebuild process along with the whey.

I switched over to waxy maize from dextrose and love it. I got sick of the sweet taste of dex and I find that I have much less bloating from WM.

I have had very good results with Surge by Biotest. It has a great carb to pro ratio and it tastes pretty good too. The only draw back is the price. I drink one shake during my workout and one right after and the bottle is usually gone in a week and a half.

Surge is an excellent product, which I've used before, but I find that pretty much ALL of Biotests products are over priced.

as far as i am concerned, all post worout drinks are over priced when you can just make them (and adjust them) your self.

thanks LV for the advise

I guess i'll stick with the maltodextrine

I know some people don't care for it too much but depending on what your goal is, Muscle Milk isn't bad at all. I have an all natural blend for the morning and a Collegiate blend in the afternoon after workouts. I have cookies and cream and it's good stuff, even with water.

yeah, the fat content is a little higher than some others but my baseball workout and conditioning program is close to ridiculous. lol Those extra few calories actually work in my favor. :D

Muscle Milk is crap, especially PWO. It combines a boatload of all 3 macros in the same serving which could lead to a fat storage nightmare. Fat has little to no use in a post workout ****tail.

Ok, then again that's your opinion. For someone who is on just a regular workout plan may not find it suitable but I'm talking about for what I use it for. The boat load of macros are necessary for me because of what I'm doing. According to what my school's nutritionist and I have discussed, it gives me what I need.

Optinum Nutriton's Whey Cappocino flavored, one scope right when i get in the car. Sometimes a little creatine with it if I've been hitting the weight pretty hard.

In my humble opinion, nutritionists don't always know what's best, especially if they don't have a post-secondary degree and a ton of experience with elite athletes.

What I do know is that LV knows his stuff when it comes to nutrition. If he says "Muscle Milk is crap, especially PWO. It combines a boatload of all 3 macros in the same serving which could lead to a fat storage nightmare. Fat has little to no use in a post workout ****tail.", I would tend to take his word over a school nutritionist any day of the week.

Just my $0.02.

Well, I'm no where near an expert. This guy has supposedly been around for a while and has travelled to many, many colleges across the country. That's another reason why I'm here, to learn everything I can so once this protein runs out, I'll consider some of the things you guys recommend.

OP - Raw Eggs in a glass if you would like to call that a drink :). And a protein shake.
Don't usually drink during workouts doesnt bother me. Best if i get in and out within 1 hour.

Take care.
