Sport Possibly the stupidest question ever...

Sport Fitness
Is it ok to eat the same thing every day?

Breakfast: Oatmeal, slice of bread.

Lunch: sandwhich (tuna or turkey) some kind of veggie on the side (pasta sometimes)

Dinner: Fish, Chicken or Pasta some kind of veggie.

In between snacks (veggie/fruits)

I'm really trying to clean up my act. I've gained 6 pounds in the last 5 years (too confortable with my SO most likely and on my 5'1" frame it shows) from eating out and just plain over eating. I've got to hit the 'all you can eat sushi bar' sometimes, and I take the name literal :(

Are you active? I would include some protein is your morning meal and decrease some of the pasta.

It's not the most horrible thing in the world to eat the same thing every day- so long as the meals are really really great.

I'd add more protein into your menu and participate in a workout program.

I eat pretty much the same foods and have the same caloric intake every day – and I think my body has become accustomed to it and slowed down my metabolism. It’s been 3 – 4 months, and I’ve stayed at the same weight/body fat %. This plateau is driving me NUTS! I’ve been doing higher intensity workouts, with still no results. I’ve heard that cycling calories is a good way to jump-start your metabolism. Do you have any suggestions/guidelines on how to do that, Lynn? :)

I'll agree with the above, you need to add some more protein to your diet and maybe 1 or 2 more meals.

I know i am not Lynn, but have you thought of taking a full week off from any working out and eating with only a 200 calories deduction? You could be suprised what a difference a week off can make, as hard as it is to do.

yup, i agree with the others, a bit protein will be good for you...
btw, i think eating the same thing everyday will do no harm as long as it includes all the body needs.

good luck with the program!

I like TheLeip's idea of taking a week off. I also know you began kettleball training. Are you still doing that? I have no idea what you have been doing/eating... so my reply is totally based on assumptions :)

Kettleballs are great... however have you seen very many people doing it as their sole means of activity? Some may claim... but I don't believe in any one thing as being the best.

To bust through plateaus are simple. The hard part is being patient and persistant. And also knowing when you are at your healthy level. Having a 12-14% body fat% for women is not normal. Women at that level dedicate their life to it and even then... they are not always at a 10-14% level.

Tom Venuto (famous natural bodybuilder) regularly talks about his 4% body fat level. However, at the same time he ALWAYS says that he does NOT stay at that level. It'snot possible. 4% is his peak level for competition.

Anyway, I went off on a tangent. To bust through plateaus... tweak something. Either the diet or the workout or the rest periods. I cannot provide more info without knowing more spefic info.

Well, this is my workout routine, which I've been doing for almost a month (though I've been in this rut since the winter):

Monday: 30 min (kettlebells)
Tuesday: 35 mins (cardio of my choice - intervals)
Wednesday: 30 min (kettlebells)
Thursday: 40 mins (cardio of my choice - intervals)
Friday: 30 min (kettlebells)
Saturday: rest
Sunday: rest

I eat about 2000 calories a day, and eat pretty much the same thing for all my meals, except dinner (I have a different dish for every day of the week). I'm 25, 5'6", 143 lbs and 25% body fat at my last calculation.

:)

Thanks for all the replies. I'm not sure if I could eat more than 5 times per day! I could try though lol. I suppose I could eat more in between my actual meals.

I don't eat pasta more than once per week, in the summer I eat it a little bit more because I like to make cold pasta/tomato/cucumber salads.
Like I said in toning, I've just hit a plateau and I know it's from not eating too clean lately. I need to get back on track

What do you guys suggest for more protein. As a personal rule I don't like to eat much red meat (just a personal preference)...eggs? and what else?

Some good proteins include cottage cheese, turkey, ckicken, fish. You can also include a protein shake to boost your protein intake. Generally people drink these right after a workout. I am not implying that you should get all your protein from shakes. You should get the majority of your nutrients from "good" foods. I am just suggesting that a protein shake now and then could be beneficial. Also, are you drinking plenty of water daily ?

That's the one thing I know I do right. I typcially drink 3 liters during the day and more during and after workouts and also with meals. I love fish so I'll try to eat more of it.

I'm not a big shake fan but definitely cottage cheese and chicken. godd suggestions!

Great job with the water. Also the fish, chicken and cottage cheese are excellent protein choices. Plus with the fish, you get the added bonus,
Omega-3's

Saphron_Girl, I don't wanna jack this thread from someone else, but my personal opinion is that kettlebells are great once a week or something. Not as your sole routine. However, that's just an opinion. If you've been in a rut since winter than I would re-evaluate your entire plan. Menu and all.

Moonbeam3, not sure of you care for these, but tofu and tempeh are good protein sources as well. Amy's burritos are also really really good. Amy's is a brand but I am sure there are other good ones. I put tuna or cottage cheese on my salad and it acts as my salad dressing.

Hey Moonbeam - Good luck on your new program! My only additional advice is to make sure you're taking a multivitamin if you're planning on eating generally the same thing everyday.
