Weight-Loss Portion size on homemade meals?

How do I figure out a good portion size for something homemade? I make up my own recipes so I have no idea what the calaries would be on them. For example, veggie chili (zucchini/onions/tvp/black beans/pinto beans/corn, tomatoes, peppers). Would a cup be normal or could it be more because it's all veggie...I just have no idea.

This has always been a challenge for me, because I tend to not cook by recipes. I just throw things together - and especially things like soup and stew and chili.

I've learned to be better about measuring things out when I cook and then figuring out how many servings I get out of a pot of something. It just takes time and experience, honestly.

One of my best resources is this:

You put in your ingredients and the number of servings and it'll come up with a nutritional analysis for you. It's not always perfect, but it gives me a starting point anyway.

In general for things like soups and stews, I estimate about 2 cups per serving - just because we like larger servings around my house. :)
