Hi everyone,

I want to start going to the gym right after university (before going home), and am finding it hard to come up with snack ideas that won't go bad (I don't have access to a fridge there, and sometimes have long days) and are filling for before the gym.

So far I've come up with the following:

- fresh fruit, e.g. apple, grapes, banana, mandarin
- celery sticks with / without 1 tsp peanut butter
- cereal bar / protein bar (preferably one that isn't too high in sugar. I haven't tried protein bars before)
- small can of tuna in springwater
- buying 1 or 2 sushi hand rolls
- small packet of mixed dried fruit & nuts

I would appreciate any ideas you might have. :)

Thanks.

- has a bunch of trail mixes, granola cereals that you can portion out into little baggies - they taste good, and don't have a lot of unnatural ingredients. They have a protein blend that tastes pretty good.

most protein bars to carry alot of sugar, some even more than most candy bars. if you want a good protein bar, try a brand called Pure Protein. It has 28 gms of protein and 3 gms of sugar. It tastes pretty decent too because they used sugar alcohols instead of sugar. Also, you can try the south beach bars. they have around 20 gms of protein and 4gms sugar.

the bad side is these bars can be costly. Try Target or Walmart (I asumme these stores are located nationwide)

last time i looked at the south beach bars, they listed high fructose corn syrup as an ingredient... for a person trying to lose weight, that is an ingredient that should be avoided

I'd personally stay away from sushi as a pre-gym snack. the rice in sushi is kindof counteractive.

Otherwise, your list is good. I agree with the above about protein bars. Protein is great for weight lifting, but some of them do have a lot of sugar. Make sure to look at the nutrition facts when you buy them.
