Raisins and Popcorn

Are raisins bad for you?
What about popcorn with nothing on it? Not the microwaveable kind either.
Kind of silly question. I'd appreciate if someone could answer it! Thanks.

i'm far from knowledgeable here, but i'm pretty sure that raisins are good for you (especially if you don't mind visiting the porcelain gods, requently). As for popcorn, it's completely empty colories ... so, it's not "bad" for you, but it ain't doin you any good, either.

raisins arent bad for you but they are a high calorie food with a high GI rating
heres some info on them:

popcorn doesnt have that many cals, but nutritionally doesnt do much for you either, still a better snack choice than say chips lol
heres some info on popcorn

:) I'm on diet to lose weight. How bad is eating popcorn twice per day? Pop secret butter natural & artificial flavor 94% fat free saturated fat free, 2 grams fat per serving.

And are raisins OK with oatmeal?

Thanks,
Paul

I usually eat popcorn once a day as a nighttime snack. I think it should be ok as long as it's calories reduced and doesn't have a whole lot of sodium. I eat the 100 calorie mini bags- they have 100 calories, no fat and 4g's of fibre.

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as you can fit it into a healthy calorie range :)

You mean they make these?? Oh no. I'm in trouble now. ;)

you can make your own microwave popcorn - without the nasty (to me) smell of microwave popcorn or the chemical additives.

1/4 cup of popping corn
1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
whatever seasoning you like (i was partial to oregano and parmesan cheese or cayenne pepper)

Tools:
Plastic paper clip (I have good sources that say a staple wil work too - but I'd be hesitant to try it)
A brown paper bag (when i've done this -make sure it's a paper bag that's not made from recycled products - and lunch bags are the preferred bag)

(the oil isn't even necessary but it's helpful to have the seasoning stick to it)

Put oil in the bag - and smoosh around.
add popcorn kernals...

seal bag with paper clip (fold over once or twice )

Make sure popcorn kernels are flat in the bag and as close to a single layer as you can get

Put in microwave and pop - depending on microwave it can take anywhere from 90 seconds to 3 minutes -

Open bag carefully and enjoy

I love the 100 calorie popcorn bags. They're a lot bigger than I expected and taste great. I'd highly recommend them.

The only bad thing about eating popcorn is that it usually makes me crave pickles, and well, those aren't good for you, right? I'm guessing they aren't since they have so much sodium. Maybe if I ate a few slices of them, but I tend to eat quite a few. ;)

Wow - popcorn and pickles? That's one I haven't heard before!

Some people may freak at me saying this: but I don't care at all about sodium. Maybe if I get high blood pressure or something I"ll start to watch it, but until then I put salt on everything,

How many calories do pickles have?

Theres a brand called healthy pop and ther's like 90 calories in the bag or something. I have tried the kettle corn, and it's pretty good. I wouldn't have it all the time, because it's just full of carbs.

Wow - I didn't know that - I've never been a big pickle snacker. Maybe I'll give it another try if they're only 10 calories a spear. May be useful to bulk up some sandwiches.

I'm from the US - Arizona.

As for pickles and popcorn - I usually put sugar on my popcorn and I just can't imagine that being good. But I did some internet searching and found out that you're not the only crazy pickle/popcorn eater, so one of these days I'll give it a go.

it's kind of like the salt and vinegar potato chips - the sour and salty is a good combo..

I only like garlic dills and they're a very nice treat :) really good in tuna fish or egg salad -gives some crunch and flavor

Popcorn anyone?

I found Orville Rednebacher makes a "Smart Pop" line. I got the Kettle Korn and supposedly it only had 30 calories in the entire bag of popped corn. I don't understand how that works. Unpopped it's like 130 calories per serving, but popped it's 15? What gives? Who'd eat it unpopped? They also have a Cinnabon flavor. I bet that smells amazing! I wonder how many calories are in that. YUMMO. But, I digress...Just 30 calories for an entire bag? That has to be wrong. Does anyone know how that works?

Amazon has the nutrition info for the cinnabon popcorn

180 calories for the bag, 50 in a cup.

the kettle corn does say 130 for the entire bag...

I've often found the nutrtion info on microwave popcorn to be very confusing... there's a differnce in volume between unpopped corn and popped corn so thatm ight account for the difference

Ok, 130 for the entire bag, I'll buy. That 30 did not seem right. It said on my box 15 calories per serving, 2 servings per bag...so that's how I came up with 30. It's far too confusing. I think I'll pass on eating any! UGH!

Thanks!
