Sport Pop......

Sport Fitness
I have had a real problem with pop for the last several years. Where I work, I can get up and go to the pop maching when ever I feel like it. I started to slow down once I realized I was drinking 3-4 20oz. bottles AND 6+ cans of Coca-Cola a day. Sometimes more than that. I slowed down to about 4-5 cans only and on Saturday I decided to stop completely. I have had no pop since Friday. It is amazing how adicting pop can be. I'm hoping I can stick with it. Now the other things I'm drinking are water, orange juice, skim milk, and a protein shake.

Anyway, I think I'm going through caffine withdrawl still. I have had a horrible headache since Saturday night. Tylonal kinda helps but its still there. Any ideas of what could get rid of the headache and is it smart to stop so abruptly or to step down a bit at a time until you off of it completely?

I've only just started cutting down..cuz i'd be drinking 6litres of it everyday with no water...milk tastes better anyway

coffee maybe?

I'm not saying that you substitute 2 liters of coffee for 2 liters of coke, but coffee has FAR less calories and it'll definitely help your caffeine withdrawal. Plus (as long as you drink it black), it doesn't have all that sugar that Coke and other soft drinks have. Try a cup in the morning and a cup in the afternoon to start with, then maybe you can take it down to just one cup a day. Coffee isn't the healthiest thing in the world, but its MUCH better than "pop" (you must live up north :D).

My step-dad drinks over a half a case of soda everyday. He is LITERALLY addicted to it. Milk or water makes him throw up.

Try Exedrine. That's the only stuff that gets rid of my headaches, and I get some really migranes too. Good luck, and congrats on your decision. You should see a huge difference in how you feel pretty soon, not to mention how much weight you will probably lose.

Just deal with the headache.. the more medication you take the longer you will extend this. I go through this every time I stop taking ephedra caffeine and aspirin, and I've learned that it takes about 3-6 days, but once it's gone. It's gone.

Goodluck.. Oh and as for the coffee, you'll just fuel the addiction with more caffeine.

Thanks guys. About the weight. I don't know for sure what it is exactly but Friday, I weight 212, Sat-210, Sun-210, Mon-210, and today-209. I'm alittle concerned that what I'm loosing isn't fat. I drink ALOT of water, usually 3-5 liters a day, so I don't think I'm loosing water weight. Also, I started eating more during the day(fruit and quite a bit of it). I think I'll try excedrin since I've come this far without caffine.....I have to be getting the end of this withdrawl I would think.

edit to add:I just saw mreik's post. I'll give it a day or two and see where my headache before taking anything.

Mreik...good call. I forgot that those contained a lot of caffine. My bad for the suggestion.

Clipse...you probably ARE losing water weight. Drinking soda makes you hold water because your body tries not to get dehydrated. Drinking a lot of water, especially at first, will cause your body to flush itself out. When losing weight, water weight always comes off first and fastest.

You should notice a good weight drop though. There is a lot of sugar and calories in soda. Once you drop that, you will be in a caloric defecit and should start losing weight naturally anyways.

I have also stop drinking pop recently. Now, I feel better than ever. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, do drink occassionally. I hate it black. Well, if your looking for a pop substitute, sugarless gum is a great alternative.

I didn't realize that. Awesome. :D

i used to be on 5/7 2 litre bottle a week, tel i went to docter and he look inside me and he cud see the coke, and what is had dun, since that day aint drank since... i stick to juice/milk and off cup of tea

i gave it up a few years ago and it has been great since then

the occasional times that i will have a few sips though, it really does "kick" as though your body is telling you not to put that crap in it :D

When I dropped the pop last year I was at 2+ liters a day on average. The headaches suck, but for me increasing water intake stopped the headaches flat. I could be wrong, but I would assume that works for anyone, try 1/2-1 gallon a day and see where it leads you.

I'm already drinking 4-5 litters a day. Thats over a gallon of water a day. Headaches are ALOT better today. Thanks again.

Please keep in mind that Orange Juice has almost as much sugar as soda, per the same serving size. Juice should be VERY limited, like a 4oz serving, no more, and targeted at times when carbs are desirable (pre or post workout).

I will keep that in mind. Usually I drink a large glass (20 oz. maybe) every morning with my multi-vitimen.

Glad to hear you made it! A lot of people fall to the headache, but all you've gotta do is deal for a little while. Definitely an accomplishment.

Thanks. Headaches are gone and I'm feelin great. :) I'm going to pick up a squat rack, two benches, two bars, and 300lbs. tomorrow. After I start lifting again, I'll be feeling on cloud 9. :D
