Go through the sections and read the sticky threads that have been pinned to the top of the lists - they tend to contain a lot of really useful stuff.

I did a big project a few years back where I lost 168 pounds so I do have a pretty good idea about losing weight.

I think that most of us know the basics - that we should become more active and eat healthily... Checking the calories in your food can be a good idea to ensure that you are not over-eating as you can over-eat even with healthy food... It can also help you to pinpoint things that are much more fattening than people imagine... Lots of people think that granola is a good choice for breakfast - and are shocked when they see the calories in a single serving. The motivation and staying power is the biggest pitfall.

I actually do not think that setting a target weight loss by a specific date is a good idea - as we can become disheartened if it doesnt look like we will achieve it... With weight loss you will look tons better if you lose some weight even if you do not get to be the weight that you want on a specific date into the future.

As for lack of gym membership - I used walking as my main form of exercise right up until I got to goal. Since then I have done different things - but have to say that walking is a brilliant form of exercise that we can all do.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum! I also started at 16, at 226 pounds.

The best and easiest thing you can do to start losing weight is to keep track of how much calories you are eating and actually knowing how much you should be eating.

And that is all that there is to it. Other things aren't really necessary, as long as you are on a deficit you should lose weight. Other things that can help are; keeping an adequate water intake, adequate protein intake (so you don't lose muscle mass), avoiding caloric-dense foods, adding cardio and resistance training, etc.

There is a reason behind each one of those, but don't feel like you need to do them all at once. If you can't do them all, just do what you can and move from there. But you need to have a way to control your total energy intake (counting calories being the most accurate and practical). The rest is secondary.

You can use this calculator (http://www.fitness.com/tools/calories_per_day/ ) to know how much calories you should eat or do a google search for 'TDEE calculator'. Some use different equations and some will ask for body fat %.

There are different websites that you can register and keep a food log (Fitday, etc), and also an app called Lose It! You can also check the info for different foods on CalorieKing.com

And that's pretty much it. One thing I'd suggest is getting a food scale so you can accurately measure portions.

Good luck!

Hi Evan,
I read your post and I totally understand how you feel and what you are going through. Its hard at your age with friends and social events but sometimes you just have to sacrifice things for a short time to get under control. If I was you I would start with a quick weight loss plan so you can see it coming off and it will give you the incentive to keep going. People will probably disagree with what I a going to suggest but it will definitely help. Try the Cabbage Soup Diet plan for a week, that will shed the pounds fast and then stick to a healthy eating plan after that making sure you cut out all bread, potatoes, rice and pasta. East 4oz of meat, fish or poultry with the same amount of vegies or salad twice a day, for breakfast just have a yoghurt or an egg with about 2oz of vegies (you can make a nice omelet with that amount). Drink 4 bottles of 500ml / 16.9 fl oz of water each day, if your not a water drinker then just try to drink a bottle every 2 hours so it goes down nice an fast. I lost 75lbs in 3 months and I am a lot older than you so your weight should come off quicker because you can be more active. I am sure if you ask your Mum to cook the soup for you she will or its super easy to cook yourself anyway. I hope I have been of some helps. PS. I love Chris Powells extreme weight loss too and cant wait till it comes back on again.
Oh: here is the website for the soup diet plan, there are plenty on the net but they are all very much the same so this is a pretty good self explanatory one.
Good luck an keep in touch

Hey Orion, any update on your progress in the past month? How are things going for you?

Yes, very good progress ive lost 15 pounds from 275, when i made this post i hadnt weighed myself in months, and i bought a scale and it said 275 about 2 days after i made this post, and ive lost 15 pounds in the past month down to 260, and ive been eatin healthier cuttin all that junk food and fast food out, sometimes maybe having a mountain dew but that's rare, drinking a lot of water and not water bottles, filtered water from my home, making good progress my goals are 220 and 198, i dont know why 198 it just speaks to me, if i reach my goal of 220 ima keep going
