Please read, confused.

Hi

I am reading heaps of info on supplements from stickeys on this site. Currently reading the article "John Berardi - bedtime stories

John Berardi - Bedtime Story

Anyway I just need some clarification, the end of the article says

"A Happy Ending

To summarize this little bedtime story:

About halfway through the night your body runs out of muscle-building fuel and leaves you in a catabolic state. To prevent this, it's a good idea to get some protein before bed.
The so-called "nighttime anti-catabolic protein formulas" hitting the market are overpriced, overhyped, and aren't even ideal for battling catabolism.
A better and more-affordable choice is plain old cottage cheese and/or a blend of proteins like those found in Low-Carb Grow! (Milk itself isn't a good choice however.) "

My question is straight forward, if I get a low carb protein powder, will this do the trick? I can't even buy cottage cheese at my local. If I get some, how much do I eat?

What sort of stuff can I put into a "shake" to make my own, I have been calling around trying to find Casein alone so I can mix up a blend, but I can't.

Would 2 egg whites, half scope of whey, half sciope of Casein and say some fruits for flavour do the trick? What about a bit strawberry topping to increase insulin levels also?

So many questions, I know.

Thank you.

Tom

No. Ricotta cheese is different. Just like mascarpone and quark are different from cottage cheese as well. Same idea, different methodology, different end result.

But you're in Australia and Australian cottage cheese is different from North American cottage cheese (if my memory serves me correctly). You should probably get the ricotta.

A 100g serving of ricotta cheese has approximately 11.4g of whey protein. A 250mL glass of milk contains around 1.8g of whey protein and a 200g tub of yogurt will provide about 2.36g of whey protein.

There you go :) Knock yourself out on ricotta, baby! :)

Cheers ILM, my GF got me some low fat cottage cheese as I could not find it.

I have it here, and it has 12.5 g or protien per 100g, hardly any fat, no sugar and little carbs, great!

Glad to hear it!

Cottage cheese actually tastes a lot better than ricotta, too. Enjoy :)

Tried the cottage cheese thing-- just not agreeable to my pallete heh. Anyway, I'm at my target weight so I just drink a protein shake before bed and burn the extra fat buildup in the morning at the gym.

Cottage cheese is great with jalapenos in it!
