Okay, I was out salvaging today, and it looks like most small stuff (furniture, clothes, etc) will be salvageable for my in laws. Cars and buildings are another story. Cars might be totaled, I'm not sure; but the houses (in laws house and cousins house) are totalled. They are trailer homes. In laws house is tilted up, walking in it is like walking on a 2:12 or 3:12 pitch roof. Not bad but obviously not liveable. Their bedroom at one end is ripped off. All windows are blown out. Their travel trailer was moved 100 feet and twisted every which way. The AC unit was slammed up against the house so hard it looks like it's half its former size. But they are lucky.

Cousins house is flattened. Almost looks exploded, like a bomb went off and all is blown out, no walls just a mangled twisted floor and debris everywhere. There is a bed matress stuck 25 feet up in a tree. We don't know whose it is. Someones photo albums are strewn everywhere. The land (25 acres shared among 5 families) looks nothing like before. I used to live there, and got lost in the woods while looking for belongings. I then looked down and realized I was standing in front of a flower bed that was mine when I lived there. Weird feeling.

All the people are okay, thank you God. But my MIL is having a hard time. She never takes things well, this is about to push her over the edge. Please pray extra for her. Thanks so much to you all for your support... :)

angelkae, we live in the middle b/w where hurricanes katrina and rita hit last year. we came out fine but many, many ppl did not. i can understand what you're all going through. its rough but stay positive and strong for those around you. :)

I think most of the cleanup of personal items is over... everything else that is left is trashed. I would say that 75% of their personal effects were salvageable. The adjuster came out yesterday and totalled the house and workshop building. An adjuster has not looked at the cars yet. They are not getting any money for the 100's of trees that fell. The house is leaning more and more all the time, I think it would fall on it's own soon but my father-in-law wants to push it over and bulldoze it with his dozer. I think it's a bit of closure for him, but I couldn't watch so I stayed home for this morning. I am glad that they can start over though, although they were underinsured so I will be cutting back expenses to help them out. Depending on how much we cut back I may have no internet, but I will definitely post a goodbye if that happens, so I wouldn't just disappear.

Thanks everyone for your support. You're great!

Wish you well

HI Angel. Well if it comes down to losing your internet, I can say we will miss you while you're gone. Great for you though, to do what you are doing to help others, family or not. Some people just refuse to help. Whatever happens, I wish the very best for you and your family. You're in our thoughts and prayers.
