Please help - stuck!

So I have been loosing weight on and off for about 3 years now. I origionally lost about 60 lbs, gained some back and lost it again.. so on and so on for the past 2 years. I'm on a performance art/gogo dance team so our weight/apprearence is very important to our boss/clients. Due to this and a slight food adiction/overeating problem my weight has fluxuated up to 10-15 lbs in the matter of a month or so (inbetween big shows/events).

Getting to the point - I have made the decision to overhaull my body for the last time and keep it that way. I have been eating well and working out 5-7 times a week for the past month or so (with a few cheat and sick days). I keep tract of everything I eat and stay under 1200 calories but keep my protein over 100g a day. I drink a lot of water and thermogenic tea, take supplements to boost my metabolism, help digest protein, and reduce the water in my fat cells. I do about 40min of circuit training/light weights and then dance or do cardio for 30min to 90min about 3-4 times a week.

The issue im having is that my body is changing (slowly) but im not loosing weight like i was able to only 3 or 4 months ago. I would follow close tot he same diet plan and workout plan and loose 3-5 lbs a week when now im loosing maybe 1lb a week. I'm stuck at 118 now but have easily gotten to 113 in the past.

Is my body getting older (i just turned 21) or do i need to be doing more cardio, eat more, or what?

Thanks!

Does having over 100g protein put you at a caloric surplus? If yes, then you are going to gain weight. The 1200 calories should already have 100g of protein already calculated into it. Also, how do you know you need over 100g? Did you calculate it or did you just pluck a random number out of thin air?

Thermogenic teas, supplements to boost your metabolism etc are all a load of BS and don't work. Otherwise you would be burning fat right? And not have this problem in the first place.

You are simply over eating. Recalculate everything you eat and be honest to yourself.

I eat 1200 calories a day, I'm not overeating. I'm saying this HAS WORKED FOR ME FOR YEARS and my issue is its not now. The supplements I take are not bullshit, i did nto buy them at some muscle store and have seen them make a large difference not more than a few months ago. I am very athletic, I need 88-100gs of protien a day. YES, I calcluated it.

Please really read what I am saying before being rude.

Hello There,

Is it possible that you're putting on muscle mass? Have you noticed any significant fat development? The body is incredibly resistant to change and maybe it has learned to sustain on 1200 calories a day. Perhaps you may want to decrease that amount for a shortened period of time to lose the last five pounds? This of course depends on how tall you are and the intensity of your workouts and I am not recommending starving yourself. Or perhaps you could switch up your workouts to include some High Intensity Interval Training. Maybe get on a treadmill and do 2 minute uphill sprints, then a 1 minute walk and so on for 40 minutes. I doubt your age has slowed down your metabolism yet as you are still quite young. I think, and I am by no means an expert on the matter, your body has gotten used to what you're doing and you need to surprise it with something different.

Good Luck!

If you are not losing weight (body fat) NOW, then you are over eating!!

I don't know how some pill can increase your metabolism to the point where you are going to see significant body fat composition change. Anyone who knows nutrition will tell you it is stupid. If you lost weight while taking this supplement, then it was because you were at a caloric deficit or your output was greater than input.

Ok, Ok, can we please tone it down a bit? It's obviously great to have opinions and/or knowledge on a certain subject, but there are much more constructive ways to get your message across than these types of statements:

Anyone who knows nutrition will tell you it is stupid.

HyunJun, you often ask people to provide evidence for what they are saying, so if you'd like to convince Sam that she shouldn't take the supplements that she's taking, then can you please provide some information?

@ Sam:

Your first statement says a lot... that your weight has been going up and down for 3 years.... One thing that often happens with dieting is that you may lose some muscle mass with each round of dieting. When your weight came back up, then it was likely mostly fat that you gained. The less muscle mass you have on your body, the harder it can sometimes be to lose weight. The fact that you're still losing weight is a good thing... although you don't really seem like you're overweight... Someone above mentioned that you might be gaining muscle mass - that could be possible and would actually be a good thing. Hard to know if this is actually happening though unless you've had some body composition testing done.

Has anything major changed in your life in the past few years? Stress levels, new medications, etc.?

Thing is, there is no scientific evidence.

And I do apologise. Sometimes it comes out really mean and rude when I type. She is only trying to learn.

Really? I'm actually surprised at this... I thought there would be a lot of studies out there that would show at least no effect of a lot of the supplements out there... I may have to look into that when I get a chance. I'm on the same page as you as far as most of these diet supplements go, mostly because I don't believe that any of them have any evidence to support that they do work (except the research that is funded by the company trying to sell the product, of course). So at best, people shell out a lot of money on something that may or may not work.

Thank you

I am pretty comparable to you, I myself lost 60lbs in one year and have been struggling to lose more for the last 2 years. And yes recently within the last month I have gained 10-15 lbs. Which makes no sense to me either. The difference is I am not physical at any point that you are. You seem to do alot of cardio and exercising to stay fit and eat way less than I do. So you are actually better off than myself. I recently noticed a weight gain when the cold started coming around. I think as humans we eat more during the fall and winter to stay warm plus theres a bunch of yummy things around for the season. Perhaps that just has gotten to you as well. I use to take a vitamin that increased my metabolism but that eventually stopped working as well. I think our bodies have gotten immune to our special diets and pills and maybe thats the other reason we aren't losing anything. I think we both need to rework our routine and switch it up! If you have any ideas I'd love to hear them and I will try to come up with some of my own.

Hi Sam

That makes perfect sense because you only have a certain amount of fat and muscle to lose and the more you lose, the longer it takes.

Do you know your body fat mass or your body fat %?

If you do that you can calculate the best deficit to eat each day. 1200 might be too great or too small.

It's good that you're tracking, that makes all the difference.

I totally agree with that!

No pill will do the work for you.. It is only up to you to sweat for it..
