Ok so I work 5 days a week... walking stairs and cleaning so im on my feet, I clean when I get home, take the kids to the park an am very active, I also incorporate an hour 5 days a week on the treadmill walking on 3.2-3.4. Im eating 3000 calories a day but Im not losing hardly any weight. I have only been doing this, this week. Before I got down to 268lbs and im at 303 now, I was 308 last week. What should I be eating and avoiding, how many calories should I have? If I dont eat enough will I still lose weight. My goal is to lose 15lbs a month so about 3.5 lbs a week.

3000 calories sounds like a huge amount of calories for weight loss, most people would gain weight eating that much.

that should give you a rough guide to your maintenance calories. To lose a pound a week, you need a 500 calorie deficit a day since a pound is 3500 calories.

Eating too little can slow down your metabolism, but as far as I know you have to eat under 1200-1400 calories for that to become a factor.

For what it's worth, on one episode of the Biggest Loser a pretty big guy said that he ate the most calories a day of the group, and his number was 1500.

Though since you're not competing for a lot of money, you shouldn't aim to lose weight that fast since it's not healthy and can leave you with loose skin. Doctors recommend 1-2 pounds lost per week.

So maybe aim for 2 pounds per week loss, and so your daily caloric deficit should be 1000 calories.

Im confused.

Are you considering your 5 pound in a week weight loss hardly any weight?

I guess I shoudlnt be complaining... it just seems so far away.. I know I cant expect to lose it fast. Im down 1.2lbs since yesterday tho!!:sifone:

You have to think about your weight loss realistically. Your probably not going to lose 15 pounds every month (nor should you be losing that much consistently). Set attainable goals and don't get so heated if you don't hit it one week, because the rate of your weight loss probably won't be consistent. If you start your journey in the state of mind you used in your opening post you are just setting yourself up for failure before you've hardly begun.

As a fellow fatty with a fair amount of blub on my tummy, allow me to say the following...

Losing 3.5 lbs a week isn't a good goal to set for yourself. CAN you lose that much? Yes, absolutely. But, don't expect to.

Also, you lost 5 lbs in a week. Your goal was to lose 3.5 lbs a week and you did better than that...yet, you're complaining? HUH? HAHAHA, that makes no sense, dude. If my goal was to make out with my girlfriend this weekend, but I ended up getting to put it in her butt...I wouldn't COMPLAIN about it. Well, unless I got poop on my ween. Eh, even then...ANYWAY, THE POINT IS...you're doing BETTER than what you're expecting to. So, don't complain. Be happy with your results, you know? You're doing better than expected, so be happy with that.

It's only been a week too, so give it time. Things will get better if you just keep on doing what you're doing.

Good luck.

I don't want to be a downer, but weight lost in the first week can just be water weight and stomach contents weight.

3000 calories a day just doesn't sound like an amount anyone can legitimately lose on unless they work out like a professional athlete.

3000 calories is nothing for a person sitting at 300 + pounds if they're even moderately active. The goal is to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week, so you're hitting your goal. Create too much of a deficit and you're risking a lot of LBM loss. This should be avoided at all costs by lifting heavy 3 days a week and getting adequate protein.

Good job on your accomplishment. Keep it up.

I put his weight assuming he's 30 year old male at 5'10" (guesses), and the daily activity level of walking a lot on account of work. It gave a maintenance of 3200 calories.

(This is the activity I chose for him: "At work - you walk a lot
At home - you keep yourself busy and move a lot
Exercise - you participate in light exercise or take long walks")

For the next activity level of

(At work - you are very active much of the day
At home - you rarely sit and do heavy housework or gardening
Exercise - you exercise several times a week and push yourself pretty hard)

his maintenance would be 3600, but from the way he described himself it doesn't sound like he does heavy housework when home and very active at work, so the 3200 maintenance activity level seems more suited to his lifestyle.

He would notice far greater results if he chose to ate 2000 instead of 3000 calories. Which is still significant. Because I'm female and work a sedentary job, I have to eat around 1200-1300 calories in addition to exercising for about 2 hours a day (1 hour walk and 1 hour stretches and weights) to lose 2 pounds a week. Maybe that's why 3000 just seems like an outrageously large amount of food to eat in a day.

Ok... been a few days since I posted... my calorie goal which I have been achieving is between 1500-2000. Im losing an average of .5-1lb a day during the week. During the weekend im home & have a hard time controlling what I eat, if I conquer this I'll be great! I feel wonderful since I started working out and losing weight last Monday. Im down to 300.4. Almost time to say goodbye to 300 & NEVER see it again.... I will NOT get above that again! At my heaviest I was 330+ lbs...totally miserable! My average day is as follows... I clean apartment buildings so im climbing stairs alot of the day as well as always on my feet for 8 hours, no breaks. I drink water all day & a few glasses of milk, no pop or juice. Im looking into getting a juicer to eat more fruit. I take a multivitamin, acaiberry & reservatrol everyday. When I get home im working around the house cleaning, fixing dinner, taking our little girls to the park. I play basketball 3-4 times a week and workout on the treadmill for around an hour at least 3 days a week, usually 4-5 times tho. Im 27 years old and im 5ft 7 in tall. Thanks everyone for your input!!

Oh lord... I just won Annie Tickets for the musical at our local music venue & theirs 10 people that won tickets all week tomorrow they draw someone that will win a walk on role on stage...uhh oh.... I really hope I DO NOT win! lol:willy_nilly:
