Hello first post...

I've been dieting on weight watchers since june 22nd 2011 i weighed 221lb and I have up to now lost 51lb or I had up to last week!, the weight loss had stopped and for weeks I were staying the same and then only losing 1/2lb so I decided to take up exercise, i've only been to the gym twice last week i did half hour circuit class on the friday and then 1hr body conditioning on the monday which including using 3kg weights and the steps.

on weight watchers you get points and you can eat upto 28 points a day so all last week i was eating around 22 points and including this exercise so I was expecting to see a good 2-3lb loss, but I had actually PUT ON 2lb I was sooo so so upset i had worked so hard and eaten less, not so that i was going hungry, just ate till i was satisfied and didnt go over my points.

Is there any reason why i would of put on this amount of weight instead of loss? its really put me off going back to the gym

Oh forgot to add, i want to lose 27lb for June which will take me to my goal weight of 146lb and im 24yr old. Female

Ok, here are some suggestions.

I have experienced the same outcomes, I would lose weight by eating healthy foods, but, once I went to the gym, I would gain a few pounds.

But, you must gain some muscle in order to raise your metabolism.

You want to track "body fat", not "total body weight". Because you can gain muscle when you weight train and then the scale will say that you have gained weight. Gaining weight is ok, but, gaining "body fat" is to be avoided. Does this make sense?

So, buy a scale that measures body fat ($45 at Walmart) and expect to gain some weight on the days following your weight training workouts.

A good way to do cardio and weight training is to raise the intensity. This will burn many more calories for a longer period of time. For example, when you do a treadmill or elliptical workout do it in this way....start out at a moderate pace for 2 minutes, then go all out as fast as you can for 45 seconds to 1 minute...then repeat the 2 minutes of moderate intensity. Alternate between moderate and extreme for only 10 or 12 minutes and you are done! There is no need to do cardio for hours. And this Intense training will increase your overall fitness (gain lung and heart capacity) along with the fat loss.

80% of your efforts to lose weight should come from what you eat. 10% should come from exercise and 10% will be genetics. If you focus on just exercise, then your efforts to lose weight will fail miserably.

I hope this helps :) Good luck.
