On march 2nd i began counting calories and lost 6 pounds in 10 days. Since the 12th, i only lost another half pound and have stayed at 248.5 since. Is this a weight plateau? How long will it take to get out? I started going to the gym on Thursday and have been burning 300 calories on the elliptical and then lifting some weights to try and help but I haven't noticed a difference.

Age- 20
Height- 70 inches
previous calorie intake- 2500-3000
calorie intake since march 2- less than 1800 but never under 1200
multivitamin every day and 80oz+ of water

I think your body is re-adjusting, I don't think it's a true plateau.

It seems too soon for a plateau I think - I agree that it sounds like an adjustment - can you add in any more exercise during the week? Maybe some evening walks or a DVD?

Slow adn Steady Wins the Race

It sounds like your body has become accustomed to your new daily caloric intake, what you need to do is exercise more. At the beginning of any diet you will have a large weight loss, but this is all water weight, after that your weight loss will be less dramatic, remember slow and steady wins the race.

Going to a gym and working out regularly is a great move, but in my opinion don’t worry about the lifting weights, put more time and effort into aerobic exercise. Taking an aerobics class will burn more calories then lifting weights will, and give your endurance a better boost as well. Try doing 2, 1 hr classes a week and 1 hr on the elliptical 3 nights a week and you will see the weight come off at a steady pace.

The key to a successful diet is always, eat right and exercise, and any diet that says otherwise will never work in the long run.

80% diet and 10% exersize.

Calorie is just an indicator. Eat cleaner and you will break through any plateau you are facing. I am having a plateau myself at 65 kilos...and to break through that I'm gonna modify my diet to a moderate 1500 calorie diet full of clean foods.. and for a while I will eliminate bad foods...like pop/soda/chocolates/icecream.
