Pinch and inch - Dumb Question

How the heck does this work? They say if you can pinch and inch on your abs you need to lose 5 lbs (2 inches = 10 lbs).

I do not beleive that I am overweight at all, but no matter how I pinch I can always get an inch. Heck, I can get an inch of skin.

Does anyone know the proper way to pinch to determine whether you ned to lose?

Haha... 'pinch an inch' - well damnit I can pinch a meter! I have no idea how that works, I'm sure it's not definitive enough if you really want to know what your ideal weight for your height is check out the BMI calculator or just see your doctor! You may just need to tone up a little bit! That's easy! Damn you! Hahaha.... Start working with some weights and do crunches and that - in a couple of weeks you'll see lots of difference if you're doing them regularly! I'm so jeleous - I wish mine was only an inch! HAha.. CHEERS! :D

I personally think that, that is CRAZY! Honestly! lol

If you don't think your overweight by all means, don't worry about it!!

The "pinch an inch" ..hehe...first had that done in elementary by our PE teacher actually needs to be done on several areas of your body to be more accurate. Using "calipers" to "pinch your inches" is one of the more reliable and affordable ways to read body fat. It's supposed to be done on the chest, thigh, stomach and arm...some people do it in other areas but it should be done in at least three.
However, not everyone can take the measurements, they need to know what they're doing, if they do, the results can be pretty accurate.
It's based on the belief that about 50% of your body fat lies under the skin.
The results are taken and then a formula is applied.
HTH a little!

Last time I checked the BMI it said my ideal was higher than I am now (that's just crazy talk). I am quite tone, but in this months Woman's Helath (which is really a good mag) it had all these methods for figuring out your "perfect" weight (as opposed to your desired weight) and I just couldn't follow the "pinch and inch" instructions.

I do need to schedule a body fat analysis at the gym.

I dont think i will ever be able to face body fat analysis at the gym! hehe. I suppose i should stop being a wimp and just go for it! at least then i know when its dissapearing! hehe.

Girlfriend, look at all the weight you've already lost! 20 pound of fat is over 10% of your original body wieght. You should get analyzed just to see what a bad mo-fo you are.

Yeah I know, the BMI calculator is not accurate but it gives you a rough estimate, you're probably best with the body fat analysis at the gym. But like NewBride said, if you don't think you're overweight I don't think there's much to worry about! I can pinch and inch on my forehead! - Don't let that get to you, I'm sure you are just fine. :)

Look in the mirror. That is the best way to check your body composition and to see if you need to lose. That mirror will tell you more than you think.

Lol

And here I thought the "pinch an inch" was really just effective public relations for Special K breakfast cereal.
