Has anyone ever tried pilates? Or really has any 200+ pounds tried it?

I rented a three disc pilates dvd with basics, 20 minute workout, and accelerated body sculpting. I tried it and felt like a huge rolly-polly! It says to put your feet like this..and I just couldn't do it? I'm thinking maybe I need to lose a little more weight and gain some flexability. Or is it just the case that practice makes perfect?

Anyone got any advice?

Did you order beginners tapes? I'm not so sure its your weight thats as much of a hinderance as a lack of flexibility. I've taken a class or two and def flexbility plays a big role! Maybe look for a beginner tape to find ways to "alter" your positions until you become more flexible without hurting yourself.

Good luck! :)

I totally agree w/ newleaf, you just have to do the best you can when you are first starting out.

BUT, not that its a big deal, but i've heard pilates doesn't do much for burning cals. I love pilates though

I took a Class this past semester, twice a week.
I was exited because i saw some infomercials about people loseing weight from it. I didn't lose any weight, but i was more flexible at the end. im over 200 and a few of the moves we did i could not do for the life of me because of my belly.

I haven't gotten that into the pilates videos..I started at 250lbs.. I hate cardio!!!! stil!!!! but 19 mths ago I got a pilates ball for my birthday. I messed around on it doing sit ups and push ups. It got my heart rate up. and it feels really good to stretch on. I had constant back pain back then... So I went online and of course found tons of moves to do(for free). Then i ventured out onto ebay and won a pilates performer home gym. Not having a tape Im still struggling on knowing the 20something moves...but I have my regular routine I made up from, of course, looking up free stuff on the internet. I love the flexability I got from the ball.. It was a great way to start my dieting. Now Im down to 190 (up from 180  ) stupid holidays weren't as easy this year as they were last year.. I had forgotten that dieting isnt "dieting" its a life-change and I just need to find what it takes for me to survive life!! It's forever not temporary....

Yeah,I am glad that someone asked about this. I am thinking about trying it.
I see the Winsor pilates on tv all the time. I am using my easy shaper,ab machine(the old kind),and my gazelle. I am drinking water, green tea and diet soda.
