Phobias

I'm coming to terms with the fact that I have a serious mental issue. I have insectophobia (scared of bugs). I've ALWAYS been scared of bugs. Some insects are worse than others and it's totally nuts cause it's based on nothing. I've frozen in fear for minutes cause I've seen a centipede on the floor. Don't really know how I'm going to go about getting over it but I'm going to have to figure out something cause it's annoying and it literally gets in the way of my life. More than anything though I find it puzzling since I don't see why I've always been this way

Anyone else have an irrational fear?

I'm similar, in that I had an extreme fear of heights. I basically scared it out of myself, though, as many think it's possible to do with most phobias. I think the moment that I wasn't scared anymore was when I forced myself to stand at the edge of a rappeling cliff and look down. It was about 150' straight down, and I just stood there fighting the fear. Now it means nothing to me to get on a plane or stand on a tall ladder.

I dunno if that could work for you though. I'm almost masochistic in the way I face my weaknesses.

I think it's blind fear( like kids being afraid of the dark when they don't even know what it is) you have. One way to get rid of this fear is to relate( find something similar) insects with your daily life.

hope not, how many of the worlds population are gay?
ohh.. let me ask you this. Do you think lesbians are ok? I know so many guys who say they are homophobes, but they still digg lesbians.

For the record, yeah I'm against homosexuality and do not support it in any way. I don't really wish to explain further, for it might be considered a "hate crime" nowadays even though it is part of my religion as well. The world is pretty f*cked up.

This is exactly what I am talking about - but let's not let this get into a forum-wide debate :)

BTW, I am not spewing hate, I am almost quoting God on that one, I'm following my religion.

I have social anxiety when it comes to overcrowded restaurants....I guess that's kind of a phobia. I'm usually not able to eat if a restaurant is really crowded and noisey....unless there is a tv that I can zone out on (like a sports bar). I get mild anxiety to the point where I can't swallow my food. Weird, huh.

Yea, that is strange Brandi, but you can get over it.

I would agree Extreme heights is one of my fears, depends on the situation

I really can't think of any phobia's at the time, maybe the phobia of getting fat??? I dunno.

i don't like spiders at all. small enuf and I can kill em easily enuf, but bigger ones freak me out bad.

I also am not a fan of heights, and thus flying in a plane is less enjoyable than a prostate exam given by Andrei the Giant, sans lubricant. plus i get motion sick really easy.

the spider thing is irrational, but the flying and heights thing...slightly more rational.

and my last flight in a plane was horrid. imagine flying at 33,000 feet to avoid a blizzard, then you have to descend through about 30,000 feet of storms clouds.

once i got off the plane i just had to lay down on the floor in the terminal for 10 mins and pull myself together.

Heights and anything related to heights: flying, roller coasters, etc.

I still dream about flying w/o a plane, but it's usually just 3' off the ground.
