Sport Performance Nutrition and/or Supplements

Sport Fitness
A guy I work with has 13 and 15 year old boys that are heavy into soccer. They started 2-a-day conditioning and it is rather warm and they got beat down. He was asking me what a good pre-practice meal and/or supplement that would be good for them to maintain their energy levels and keep them going during a long strenuous practice. Also something post workout as well. I figured I would tap into the vast knowledge on this site for some information and tips to help them out. Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

5-6 meals a day, with complex carbs 2 hours before the training session, and simple carbs after.

zero need for a supplement here. just good nutrition.

That is what I told him, but I wanted some other opinions to back me up. I appreciate your input bud.

I would say for the typical soccer player, in the summer, that gatorade, especially diluted gatorade, would probably be better than water to stay hydrated and full of electrolytes.
