Sport Percentage of fat/carb/protein....

Sport Fitness
I see people mentioning things like 30%/20%/30% etc. and I know what it stands for and what not, but how do I go about implementing these percentages based off of nutrition fact labels and natural foods that I don't even know any nutrition facts of therefore meaning I have to guess.

I am basically lost when someone mentions these percentages.

It depends what your goals are.

40/30/30 is usually used.

I dont believe thats the question that was asked.

I think they are trying to workout what it means and how to utilise, not what is used.

Basically, if you do not have figures to use in the first place, eg eggs have 8g of protein and so and so grams of fat etc etc, then working out these % will be impossible.

On the other hand, the internet can provide nutritional value of most foods, just do a search. From there, you can work out what percent etc etc.

I am not sure on how to implement if you had the info as i really have not heard of this meathod before, so id like to learn from anyone that knows!

Cheers,

Steve.

Iwill, those are percentages of calories in the three macronutrients:

The contributions of each:

Protein: 4cals/g
Carbs: 4cals/g
Fat: 9cals/g
Alcohol: 7cals/g

So, on the baseline 2000cal diet, using 40/30/30:

Protein:
2000cals * 0.4 = 800cals
800cals / 4cals/g protein = 200g protein.

Carbs:
2000cals * 0.3 = 600cals
600cals / 4cals/g carbs = 150g carbs

Fat:
2000cals * 0.3 = 600cals
600cals / 9cals/g fat = 67g fat

So, a pro/carb/fat percent of 40/30/30 on a 2000cal diet becomes:

800cals/600cals/600cals = 200g protein/150g carbs/67g fat

Does that make sense?
