Sport Peanut Butter

Most articles or posts I have read suggest the natural peanut putter (I have been using the smuckers brand). My only quam with it is that it's so cumbersome to deal with, it's like trying to spread dried playdo. Are there any alternatives you recommend, or easier ways to deal with this stuff?

I feel your pain. Well, once it stir it the first time, it's usually pretty good for a while. Then, about half-way through, the play-dough syndrome kicks in. This is when I start tossing it in the microwave for a few seconds. This softens it up a bit and brings back some of the oils.

I've heard of adding a touch of peanut oil when you get near the bottom, but have never tried it and probably won't. I usually just give up and let my girlfriend use the last inch or so for baking. Not that I need peanut butter-based baked goods around the house, but it apparently works pretty well.

Are you mixing the oil in good when you first open it?

I use smuckers all natural and it seems fine to me.

Yea, make sure you mix it up well. I bought some stuff that is made locally, and it had tons of oil at the top like they all do. I mixed it up, and it never lost the consistancy again. It was just as creamy as the sugary JIF stuff...

I use Smart Balance PB with 1000mg Omega-3's, all-natural, vegan approved, neads no refrigeration or stirring, 8g protein per serving.

Edited for protein accuracy =)

living in the UK we don't have any of these products for peanut butter....what would be a good nutrional 25g serving of peanut butter roughly...

In terms of:

Calories
Fat
Protein
Carbohydrates
Sugar

The UK has two acceptable choices for pb.

The first in the Whole Earth range, available in T*sco, A*da, Sai*sburys. However, this is peanuts AND palm oil (a high calorie sat fat)

The best option is the Meridian range; they do smooth and crunchy with or without salt. However, its harder to get hold of - i have a small health food shop in wilmslow cheshire that i clear out when i get across there. Otherwise its available on the internet but you will pay for postage. you can get the 1kg tubs to offset this a little.

The whole earth PB has 9.0g of saturated fat (per 100g) and the Meridian equivalent comes in at 8.6g (per 100g). Not enough of a difference to justify the postage for me.

fattytumtums, for your info, the Meridian nutritional info is:-

per 100g:
Energy 2516kJ/606kcal, Protein 31.0g, Carbohydrate 12.1g (of which sugars 6.2g), Fat 48.2g (of which saturates 8.6g), Fibre 6.5g, Sodium 0.4g.

Like LV said, you must not be mixing the oil in well enough. I mix mine up and throw it in the fridge and it is no different than regular PB when I go to use it.

You are stirring in the oil, right? You're not dumping it out, right?

I just started using smuckers all natural, Its deffently diffrent from what I am used too, but it spreads just fine. I also think it tastes way better then the bad peanut butter, it made some awesome protein peanut butter balls as well. I used unfavored protein, has anyone tried peanut butter balls w/ flavored protein? Sounded gross too me.

I low low on stuff too add to my PB balls, so I cant wait to try it w/ more stuff. All I had was sunflower seeds. I had to choke to little honey bears to get enough honey. Still awesome though, whoever posted them needs a medal!

it goes on easy if you toast bread and apply on with butter knifes
