I have a smelling disorder called Parosmia. I've been trying to lose weight and eat a healthy diet but I can't because of it. If I try to eat while the smell is there I will vomit everything up. While I have the smell I can't eat anything I can only drink certain drinks like water, milk and green tea. I think as a matter of fact I know my body is lacking of nutrition. I don't know what to do. When I get the smell in my nose I wanna cry. It makes me sick to my stomach. Im currently craming down 200 calories of salad and water and green tea. Is there a possible way. Is there a way I can maintain a healthy diet with this smelling disorder?

PS the smell is really nasty. Imagine everything fowl smelling in the world placed into one pile. Now imagine eating that pile. Yea nasty isnt it. Its really worse than it sounds trust me.

When did this condition hit you?

What has your doctor said - especially when you said that you're getting in 200 calories a day...

Googling the condition - htere is a user support group or two available with people with your condition - you might ask there for suggestions...

Well I've had it for about 6 years now which was before I wrote that thread. It just wasn't that bad and came every once in a while when I sneezed, screamed etc (I thought it was normal). Now the smell is triggered no matter what. It can stay lingering for about 7 hrs to the whole day. I've tried support groups but theres alot of information for eating but not eating healthy. One of the suggestions was to quickly guzzle down a shake really quick. Other than that there isn't any great information for someone who wants to eat healthy. I tried guzzling down healthy shakes befor I get the smell but they make me full too fast so I still don't get enough calories. I guess there has to be more study done on smelling disorders but thanks for your help.

PS yes I went to the doctor recently and I suggested parosmia and the neurologist did tests on me and a ct scan

Is this like fish odour syndrome or something totally different ? I watched a documentary on fish odour syndrome and it was interesting the way it affected people.
