Pain since running further, why?

Hi all,

Recently i'v progressed from 4-5km runs to 6-7km runs. Since starting the 6-7kms I have been getting pains in my feet, legs.

It starts off on the ball of my feet, then as i continue running it moves to the backs of my ankles & if i stop and walk it shoots up my legs! :(

Its VERY painfull! I'm thinking it might be the shoes? But i have been training in the same shoes for 4 weeks so far, this has just started as iv started running further..

Any ideas to why this is happening?

I am training for a 12km run which is in 3 weeks, im hoping il be ready in time!

Are you running every day? Maybe try a few days of rest with your feet up

And have you ever had your running syle analysed for faults?

Yes every day, exept the weekend. But over the last weekend, i had 3 days off and then today, when running it starts 5mins into the run!

And no about the running style.. how would i do that?

First, you should probably see a doctor! What caused/is causing your pain is difficult to diagnose without more info. How old are you? Male or Female? What is your height and weight? How long have you been running? What kind of exercise/sports have you done in the past and for how long? Do you have high arches or flat feet? Were your shoes professionally fitted? Have you ever had any injuries?

Until the pain subsides, you may either need to rest 10-14 days or at least cut your runs short as soon as the pain starts and only run every third day or so.

Once the pain is under control I would recommend running every other day or even every third day and different distances each session. Something like Monday: 20 minutes/5K, Wednesday: 20 minutes/5K or HIIT, Friday: 30-40 minutes/6-12K.

Thankyou for the info :)

I am 17 Female, 5ft around 52ish kg.
I'v always ran but at short distances such as 4km, on random days in the week when i'v felt like it.
The only other sports i have done/still do is swimming & horse.
Flat feet
No not professionally fitted, and no injuries.

It only ever hurts when i run, after my run im absolutely fine! :S

If you have flat feet, that could explain a lot. I would discuss your problem with a sports medicine doctor or physical therapist, or someone who specializes in fitting shoes for running. I seem to recall when I was in the military they used to reject people with flat feet because they would never be able to march or run long distances. Although that was 40 years ago so hopefully there is a better solution now.

Whats wrong with flat feet? lol They aren't flat flat, just a small arch, smaller then the average arch haha

But il get my shoes proffessionaly fitted soon i hope :)

Thankyou

Good news! I got my feet scanned & proffessionaly fitted shoes :D Went for a 6km run, and NO PAIN!! Im stocked :) Hurt the bank account though haha

Thanks for the help!
