Not really sure how to start this to be honest. Need to lose like 14kgs to get to the middle of a healthy BMI. Wouldn't make me super lean or anything, just healthy and easy to maintain and where my weight normally has been.

Had a few health issues last year that indirectly caused a bunch of weight gain (mainly because I stopped working, think it was boredom/ depression/ stress). Kind of drifting right now to be honest, nearing my mid 30s and feel like I have not much to show for it and no plans for the future. Thought having a few personal goals would be a good start.

Would be great to lose the majority of the weight I want to lose by the end of the year, so aiming for a half kg a week. I use a fitbit, burn an average of around 2300ish calories a day so I think to start with I'll be aiming for around 1800 as a goal to start.

I weighed 73.8kgs on Monday just gone, will weigh in on Mondays. Might be a bit off this week as my cycle has just started.

Hi Page and welcome to the forum :) Your plans sound healthy and realistic which is always nice to see. We´ll cheer you on along the way!

Wow everyone, thank you so much for the welcome!

River bird- I like hiking when I make the effort to drive somewhere nice, otherwise long walks, yoga, pilates. I am absolutely not a gym person, I need my exercise to refresh me and unwind whatever I have going on in my head. Would be fair to say I exercise more for my mental health than my physical health.

This morning I got up early and went for a long walk around the neighbourhood and finished with an hour of yoga at a local studio near my house (newly re-opened, so nice to see and interact with people again) then went for coffee after with a few people from the class. None of them I am close to or even know very well but honestly have felt so lonely with all this covid isolation stuff going on! I don't go often because it ends up being more of a mum group meet up so I can't really relate to a lot of what they were talking about but was nice to socialise. I also went to the local fancy (overpriced) Saturday morning market afterward and got a lovely piece of salmon for lunch.

Yesterdays food wasn't great but not a big deal as I was so perfect the rest of the week, ended the day at around 2350 calories and my fitbit says I burned 2300. I'm not sure I'll bother keeping record of my food on here, I use MyFitnessPal on my phone and don't really think I need to record my food twice.

No plans for the rest of the day, maybe I should get stuck into finding something to study. I have a pretty good savings safety net which will keep me comfortably going for a while but really feel like now is the time to maybe grow up and get a real career. I am actively looking daily for a job that I can actually do now but a lot of places are only just re-opening so there's a lot less out there than there normally would be.

Hi, Page. There is no need to record everything twice. Use your diary however you want.
It sounds like a plan to try to turn the current situation into something positive & good for you having that safety net.
I love walking too for my mental health as much as anything & feel it's a form of meditation. I like to stop & take photos to feel more in the moment.

Walking is awesome and pilates can be great too if taught properly. I lost my job at the start of the Covid crap and thought it'd take forever to find something again because of the uncertainty and slow reopening... Yet here I am with a sudden new job, so you never know.

Page, I also use myfitnesspal, it is a very convenient way to track things, and a better calorie estimator than doing it myself. I usually post my myfitnesspal tally here, so I kind of do both, or post both places anyway. How you do it is not so important, that you do it is!

Don't let one day bother you, as you track your food and watch things more closely you will improve. I am sure of it. And one day of break even calories isn't so bad, if you are like me at all you have had a lot of days eating more calories than burning, you didn't do that.

Keep up the good work!

.

Page, it's great that you are tracking your calories.

I also do not like going to the gym. I've purchased dumbbells over time and built my own gym in a sense. I also jump rope and use a treadmill in the winter. In the past, I've run outside a lot, or rode my bike. ll probably go back into running outside at some point, but I wanted a change.
