Hey all,

This is my first post here on the site, so hello to everyone :)

I'm pretty out of shape and haven't don't a lot of exercise or good eating for awhile to be honest. My diet has been pretty shocking also. I am wanting to start 2015 off healthy, with cleaner eating and exercise... so cutting a lot of bad foods (sugar/fat) from my diet. Also with smaller portions. I've looked at a few diet plans and changes towards more greens and healthy food.

I had a baby a few months ago so my body had a hard time last year. It does make it harder to exercise though walks are no problem. I'm breastfeeding also, so I need to have curtain supplements for that and eat enough to produce milk.

My "embarrassing" current measurements are:

Weight: 211 lbs :-(
Height: 5ft 5"
Chest: 44" (I am breast feeding though)
Hips: 48.5"
Thighs: 26"

So as you can see I have a lot of work to do... any motivation or help would be appreciated. I do sometimes struggle to stick to something haha. How often should I measure/weigh myself? These were done 1st Jan. I have started a food calorie counting app, and only buy healthy foods now. I know it won't happen over night!

I've tried to post some "Before" photos too... the photos were taken from my phone so the quality is bad! They are definitely not flattering ones... but honest ones all the same...

Thanks for any kind words or advice!

Hey Sarah,

I am also new and looking to lose (more) weight, so I am not sure what value my input has, though I have lost 50 pounds so far so perhaps my starting weight loss advice will be useful to some degree.

You mentioned exercise is a bit tough, but that walking is fine. The easiest thing to start doing is make walking a habit. It doesn't sound like much, but when I started all I did was walk 3-4 days a week, half hour each time. I walked a little faster over time and now I do a light jog 3-5 miles a day 6 days a week. Even if you stick with walking, it adds up fast and will help tone the legs.

As far as food goes, I went through about 10 different diet plans / eating regimens. The trick (for me at least) was to find not only something that was effective, but didn't cut me off from everything I enjoyed, and definitely not all at once. Good weight loss takes time, so if you're doing calorie counting (which is what I do,) just start slowly cutting out the high sugar stuff, but leave in some of what you enjoy (I still snack on icecream time to time.)

As far as how many calories you should eat, that I am less sure on, but some calorie recommendations from the internet indicate (since I don't know your age):

If you're 25

1756 is your base calories burned per day if you just sleep all day
2107-2176 is your sedentary calories burned per day
2261-2414 is your lightly active calories burned per day (you do light exercise 1-3 days per week)
2609-2721 is your moderately active calories burned per day (you do moderate exercise 3-5 days per week.)

Once you get a sense of your activity level and calories burned, you want to pick a realistic daily calorie consumption per day (typically around 500 less than you burn per day, which nets you about a pound of weight lost per week. Going too low in calorie consumption will result in you telling your body you are starving and the loss of weight ceasing.)

Hopefully some of this info was actually helpful :) if you post your age I would be happy to revise the numbers, though if it's close to your age, the numbers are probably close.

Wow thanks so much for the long reply !

Your advice definitely helps, good to see others going through a similar phase. I'm 28 but I'm sure the figures aren't tio far off like you said. I didn't think about ages affecting it!

I'm probably lightly active so it gives me a good indication. Thank you

Happy to help, and an important note (as I have had it happen several times,) don't get discouraged if for the first few days or even weeks it doesn't seem like you're dropping the weight. You will start feeling better pretty quickly but the figures might not reflect it right away. Also I don't recommend weighing yourself more than 1-2 times a week (and right in the morning is the best time I think.) It made me anxious when I weighed myself too often, and your weight fluctuates heavily based on water content and food content, stress effects, etc. This will take time, but if you don't try taking shortcuts, you will be happy with the long term effects :)

Hi I'm also new to this.

I studies forums a bit in my university course and when I was younger I used to use occasional forums. I thought group discussion could help me get back on track.

The summer of 2013 I dropped from 66kg to 59.9kg! I was happy with about 61kg though. I'm 5'7.

This year I've hit 76kg! It's pretty bad. I don't notice it too much until I couldn't fit into my clothes! And my chest has also exploded from a 36B to a 36D because of contraceptive pills that I stopped in August.

My god guys, can I have some starting tips?

Hi, I too am new to this forum and am so grateful to read this. The idea of losing 100lbs for me is really scary. But reading your post gives me some hope.

Any advice for someone who is completely inactive? I guess just starting somewhere, but that seems really hard too.

Glucomannan is a water-soluble polysaccharide that is considered a dietary fiber. It is a hemicellulose component in the cell walls of some plant species. Glucomannan is a food additive used as an emulsifier and thickener.

3 grams needed of glucomannan, the Japanese grown and harvested Amorphophallus konjac root that actively contributes to a natural progressive weight loss whilst of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and varied diet.

Glucomannan can be found in a product that my company sell and promote.

Hi everyone,

I am pretty good with weight loss programs. I have tried many of them but I have found one that has actually helped me significantly hopefully I could learn from and teach everyone here what has work for me. Looking forward to seeing what everyone here is doing.

There's a lot of things that you could do in order to start up. I first started by drinking a lot of water daily and walking at least 30 to 40 minutes in the morning. I also came across a few programs that helped with my daily eating habits since I use to just eat greasy and fried foods. I would say that what helped me the most was this tea that I have been drinking it basically detox my body and it has been easier for me to lose weight but I usually eat 3 meals a day with a few healthy snacks like bananas, strawberries, low fat yogurt but I drink the tea once in the morning, once at lunch and once at dinner and I have dropped a good 20 pounds in the past month. I also stopped drinking soda, sugary foods, and foods with lots of calories.
