overtraining?

Hi, I'm Mike. I'm new to this board. I've been continuously working out for 2 months everyday. Maybe skipped 3-4 days out of those 2 months.

What I do...

If I'm feeling tired right before I go to sleep I'll just do 40reps and 4sets (not sure if I'm saying this correctly) of push ups with about 5-10 min rest between each set. Then I follow with 50 reps and 4 sets of crunches. Usually take about 5-10 min between doing each set. - This is my common work out.

If I'm full of energy I manage to also do 15 reps/2 sets of pull ups. I also Have an inversion rack and will do 15 reps/2sets of inverted crunches. - Not always in one work out might scatter it through out the day. In addition I would scatter a few more sets of push ups through out the day, about 4-6 extra sets.

Basically I have a laid back type of work out. No Muscles soreness of any kind I am seeing some results but not where I should be after 2 months. Could this be overtraining? I have no symptoms of overtraining, only the fact that I don't take any days to rest. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention...

I'm 19y/o my height is 5'7.5 and weight is 120-125.

Your doing to much and you need to structure it. Welcome. I used to over train and it made me ratty and grumpy. Becreful otherwise you will suffer burnout. Plan for your workouts say 5 sessions planned, and one session that you do whatever you feel like on the day. Thats my advice!

What I don't understand is why don't I have any of the symptoms of overtraining and now I actually have drive to work out. Based on what I've said above will that have any side effects or negative outcomes. My body never gets sore maybe the first 3 days when I just began working out and that was it.

My goal is not to build muscle but to become ripped maybe build a little bit of muscle to have a better shape. :D

not overtraining

hey I dont think you're overtraining, Those kind of exercises don't warn you out as it does for running or any other energy burning exercises, you're routine is really good, but you should take some rest days perhaps in the weekend, floor exercises (callisthenics) are good exercises to do when you have actually overtrained and can't do weights and cardio.

You're routine is far from good I'm afraid. All you're doing are pushups, crunches and pullups right? Added to that, you're scattering your excercises throughout the day too. You certainly aren't overtraining...nowhere near in fact but, you aren't training very efficiently.

You said your goals are to become 'ripped' and build some muscle. You'll only get ripped by losing bodyfat and you'll only build muscle by excercising each muscle group. Where are the leg excercises, where are the shoulder excercises, where is the cardio? How clean is your diet?

Rest days are essential to allow for muscle growth and recovery.

There is a lot of information on this site. Sounds to me like you have a lot of reading to do ;)

Good luck.

Ditto with Chris. You wont see too much overtraining doing body weight exercises after two months. Its time to get some equipment.
