Out of shape.. need to get ready for track season

Hello,
I work out once a week with weights and if i am lucky i do a run. I am starting my first year of track, and don't know how to get into good enough shape. I think i am going to be a sprinter and a pole vaulter. Do you have any adivce on the best way to get ready and in condition for my up coming track season?
 
I don't run track, but one thing i can suggest is doing some sort of regular jump skipping. It improved my endurance dramatically and improved my speed and agility

I'm sure your future coach will be glad to give you a workout to do until the season starts. If you really are out of shape, you just need to get your cardio up. Get ready for the many laps you have in store for you.

Talk to your coach, or another member of the team such as a captain.
