Sport organic vs non natural PB

how bad is "regular" (not organic) peanut butter? I always eat natural when I'm at home, but they only have what is clearly not organic at my school cafeteria and there's really not much else to have from the cafeteria that will incorporate any worthwhile fat into my diet. Is this a good option, or should I just keep eating my own almonds that I bring? I know that's a better choice, but I have those very often with snacks and was hoping to just get some variety.

Thanks

depending on the peanut butter used, it could contain partially hydrogenated oils. IMO it's better to spend 5 minutes making your own and bringing it with you, you'll know exactly how many calories and fat grams you are taking in as well.

Organic -natural - regular, you're confusing me.

Regular is your big brand name, full of sugars, good peanut oil replaced with BAD oils, and tons of salt added fills the shelf peanut butter.

Natural is no replacement of oils, no added sugars, maybe some salt added.

Organic is the same as natural only the peanuts are grown without using synthetic chemicals in the soils or sprays on the leaves of the plants.

I don't think there's much difference between natural and organic, natural is on my shelf. For sure, there are people that demand organic.

I am having a hard time with natural PB. I got some unsalted creamy natural stuff....yuck. How can something so slimy in texture still taste so dry? It's a dietary mystery I tell ya!!

I've made a lot of concessions trying to eat healthier, but I won't be buying this again.

Smuckers makes a very good Natural Peanut Butter (Peanuts and Salt).

I am the opposite. After eating NPB for the last 2 or so years, I cant stand the more unnatural brands that contain the-bad-for-you hydrogenated oils, refined sugar, and other undesireable ingredients.

Hydrogenation of oils, with removal of essential fatty acids, is used in the food industry for the sole purpose of prolonging the shelf life of processed foods (to maximize profits).

IMO, stay away from any peanut butter that has hydrogenated oils and refined white sugar. One reason (among others), that they add Hydrogenated oils to PB is it prevents natural peanut oil separation. Some brands even remove some of the nutritious peanut oil from thier product.

Go with NPB, your body will be better served, I promise.

Chillen,

I agree 100% with you on the benefits of the good stuff. It's just the texture and flavor I am having issues with. What I might try is mixing a bit of organic blue agave sweetener with it to make it a little more palatable.
I give a big thumbs up to the agave plant....who knew that such a wonderful creation of nature could give us tequila AND a healthy sweetener.

Rock on Chillen, and have an awesome weekend!!

organic and natural are completely different things.

I would avoid pb that isn't natural. no good comes of trans-fats, and most pb that isn't natural has added sugar too, which you don't need.

Here is a good link defining what "Organic" is:

Peace, love, and much happiness to all brotha and sista's! :)

Some peanut butter labeled natural peanut butter has sugar added too. You need to check the ingredients. I know I asked my wife to pick me up some natural peanut butter. She brought home something that said "Natural Peanut Butter" in large words right agross the front, but one of the ingredients was sugar.

I second the Smuckers. It is very good.

God, I freakin' love natty pb. The wife keeps fake pb in the cupboard for baking - and I thought it would never happen - but I just don't like it anymore.

Me too. I am practically obsessed with it, LOL. :) Why doesnt it have to be so dang calorie dense! DANG IT! I go through 2 large jars of Smuckers Natural per week (crunchy). If I allowed myself, I could litterally eat it morning, noon, and night, and not complain one bit. I still bitch to this day about how calorie dense it is, lol.

Best regards,

Your probably going to have to get used to the taste of natural PB. You, like most others, have probably grown up used to the sweet taste of commercial pb so natural will initially be somewhat bitter. But once you get used to it, you will discover that it is true nutty goodness, PB how it is meant to be. I can't stand commercial PB anymore, they are too sweet, and the texture of it is so unnatural and processed, and there is almost no hint of peanut taste to be found under all of those other oils.

You might want to try other brands. Smuckers, especially crunchy, is good. Kroger brand creamy is very good too, 365 everyday value creamy by whole foods is as well. I tried a different kind the other day, it is all organic, made with some organic cane sugar and palm oil, so it is a bit more like the commercial pb you are used to, but tastes quite a bit better. I can't remember the name of it, just said organic peanut butter and had a green top
