Weight-Loss Opinions on this type of bread? 35 calorie bread?

Weight-Loss
The bread is Heiners 35 caloire bread and I'm curious if it's really healthy?

I understand this may be a stupid question but I really need that "peace of mind" from someone here who is more familiar with nutrition and this product.

There is about 3 versions of this bread, one is a whole wheat version and I look on the back and see good list of nutritants. But after reading a Mens Health article on types bread I am now questioning my judgement. The article mentioned looking at the ingredients. - This is were I'm lost.

So could someone please tell me if this is decent? Here is the list of ingredients if you don't mind to skim over and tell me what you think. - Thank you

HFCS is the first trigger for me - I avoid foods with corn sweeteners as much as possible.

The bread I usually buy has these ingredients:
STONE GROUND WHOLE WHEAT FLOUR, WATER, BROWN SUGAR, YEAST, WHEAT GLUTEN, CONTAINS 2% OR LESS OF EACH OF THE FOLLOWING: SALT, VEGETABLE OIL (SOYBEAN OIL OR CANOLA OIL), DOUGH, CONDITIONERS (SODIUM STEAROYL LACTYLATE, CALCIUM, STEAROYL-2-LACTYLATE, MONOGLYCERIDES, CALCIUM IODATE, ETHOXYLATED MONO AND DIGLYCERIDES, CALCIUM PEROXIDE, DATEM), CULTURED WHEAT FLOUR, VINEGAR, CALCIUM SULFATE, MONOCALCIUM, PHOSPHATE, YEAST FOOD (AMMONIUM SULFATE), SOY LECITHIN

It's 50 cals per slice ... not bad at all.

Thank you for answering,

I try to stick to the above ingredients and stay away from the high fructose corn syrup.

In general I try to stay away from "enriched flour" based on some articles I've read. It means that the flour was put through some processing which stripped it of all its nutrients, then the manufacturer chemically added the nutrients back in. The term "enriching" really means "re-adding". While not explicitly unhealthy, it does imply a lot of processing that's just not necessary for bread. There are many breads that have regular, non-enriched flour (it won't say "non-enriched", but rather the word "enriched" will simply be missing) and I aim for those. The ingredients KaraCooks listed are similar to my bread of choice, although mine is 100 calories per slice.

As a side note, beware that many loaves of wheat bread (especially the cheaper ones) are hardly different than white bread; wheat does not automatically mean healthy.

If you're really into bread, it's not too difficult to make your own; google home-made bread.

Regardless of the calories, this bread is still in the mid to high glycemic index category, which are two categories of food that I avoid. Whole grain rye bread is the only one bread I know of that is low GI. Even with that, I restrict myself to 2 slices per week.

IMO, eating eggs fried in butter is far healthier than eating most breads. I like a fried egg and a few pieces of sliced turkey breast between two very dense slices of whole grain rye when I do get the bread itch.
