Opinion requested on NordicTrack 360 with Free Motion

Note, I've posted this to Men's health/Fitness Equipment, sorry if you read it twice.

Hi All,

I've been working out at home for quite sometime using an eliptical trainer in the basement. I love it. My cardio/energy have improved alot. I complement my workout with push-ups and set-ups. I am starting to feel a slight imbalance between my triceps and biceps/rest of body :)

so now I am looking for another home exercise machine. One of my requirement is space saving as well as a large number of possible exercises (I get bored easily).

I am currently looking into purchasing the NordicTrack 360 with Free Motion Technology.

It seem to fit my tight basement, the arms protrude a little bit making it a 6x5 machine from top while it is a 3x5 at the base (which is quite important for me).

The exercises shown on the website tell me that it is possible to have a complete workout.

Has anyone purchased this machine? if so what are your experiences? If not, how about some theoratical analysis from the experts :) I am worried slighly about the the 150LB weight limit. I am quoting the site below:

Is 150 lbs. enough resistance?
Yes! Because the NordicTrack 360° uses FreeMotion technology which forces you to train in multiple planes of motion making strength training exercises more challenging. Therefore, less weight is required to achieve results.

anyway, thank you for your patience reading my lengthy post, looking forward to all your comments.

PS it is currently on sale in Sears US and Canada (800-200USD and 1200-200CAD)

You would be better off sepending your hard earned cash on a good bench and set of dumbells and doorway chin up bar.
If you have and money left over get a rack and a bar.

I have been looking at this machine also. They have it on sale at Sears every couple of weeks for $599. If all the pieces fit together (sometimes NordicTrack has a problem in that area) It should be a great value. I have worked out on it in the store and it seemed quite good to me. The 360 motion is the newest craze in fitness today. It is refered to by different names, one of them being functional training. There are other similar units on the market, but they are much more expensive than this one. This is basically a dual cable machine dressed up with a bench arangement. If you can get it from Sears, you have a 90 return window, so if you don't like it, just take it back.

Thanks midlifecrisis for your comments. It's good to have actual experience with it. Sears Canada here do not have it in their stores, only through their catalog. The american sears special ended couple of days ago so I will have to get it from here (the price difference without special is about the price of gas).

I am asking couple of sport medicine experts their opinions on it and I will post back to this forum.

One workout freak friend of mine pointed that it has no exercices for the lower back area, that it is pretty weak in terms of back exercises in general. I think most home-gyms are like that anyway, so no point in stressing this point? what do you guys think?

Hi manofkent,

thank you for your advise. Anything specifc you dislike about this particular model?

Pierre

No, but amy machine will limit your range of movement. Its always better to use free weights. Machines are just a gimic.
