Onwards and Upwards

Today I decided to start a journal. My goal in this journal is to record my eating/drinking/exercises habits and regularly remind myself of my long term health goals. This approach was very effective for me in another area of my life and I have been able to make substantial changes to that area since January.

I'm a 31 year old guy that has a few more pounds than I want to have and is feeling lousy about eating more processed foods than I want to, drinking more alcohol than I want to, and exercising less than I want to.

So, my goals are to 1) minimize eating processed/heavy foods; 2) minimize drinking alcohol; and 3) exercise daily, either cardio or strength. I'd like to slim down quite a bit but also maintain a healthy amount of muscle.

I want to be intentional about my eating/drinking/exercise for the next six months (July 1 - January 1). After that, I'll reevaluate.

So, in that spirit, today I will eat only a veggie-only salad at whole foods with a non-processed/non-fat dressing; and, after work, I'll go for a seven-mile run. When I get home, I'll throw away the beers in the fridge and clean my apartment. I'll post the results this evening.

Cheers!

Day 1 - Evening

So far so good. I had the veggie salad for lunch and did my seven miles after work. No more food for tonight; will get to bed early and wake up early for strength training at the gym.

I had been eating junk food and drinking alcohol while playing a computer game. It was easy to eat a lot mindlessly while playing. I got rid of the game so that doesn't happen again. It was sending me into a fog because I would play for four or five hours at a time, late into the night and sometimes into the morning. Not good. This has only been happening for a month or so.

Tomorrow I'll go see my girlfriend after work. She wants to go for ice cream. So, for food tomorrow, I'll have some beans and salsa when I wake up before going to the gym, some fruit at lunch, and then the ice cream in the evening. I probably won't have time to run tomorrow evening, so I'll do four miles on the treadmill after I work out.

All this stuff probably isn't relevant to anyone else. But, it might work out for me. I'll check in tomorrow morning after the gym and before going to work to further cement the plan.

My goal for the end of the year is to be able to fit into pants that I had last summer when I was about twenty pounds lighter. I felt great about my health back then.

That's all for now.

Day 2 - Morning

Still on track - woke up early, did a 45-minute strength workout and then ran (for one mile) on the treadmill. Started listening to a hypnosis audio on losing weight last week. I'm not sure if it is effective, but it is pretty relaxing to listen to twice a day.

Was just looking over the forum website, and it appears that there is a "diary" section. My posts would probably fit better in that section ... I'll do a transfer tomorrow.

Will have some fruit for lunch and then meet my girlfriend at 7 for ice cream...
