Only 15%

Hi, i go to the gym 4-5 times a week and tend to spend 85% of my time weight training and only 15% on cardio.

I want to try and allocate more time for cardio exercise. I know a combination of cardio exercises would be best form of a cardio workout but what is the best single cardio exercise for losing weight and trimming away tha small unwanted flab:

- treadmill
- rowing machine
- cycling
- swimming
- elliptical cross trainer

or do you have a better cardio alternative... thanks in advance

while cardio is great for you, the best way to lose weight is to consume less calories

Hi, thanks for the reply. I am aware of that but i tend to eat quite healthy apart from drinking a few beers at the weekend...

What do you think is the best cardio exercise...

All of them. Seriously. If you only stick to 1 exercise, the body will get better and better at doing it, and over time won't have to burn as many calories to go the same distance (to a point).

My weekly cardio involves jogging, briskly walking dogs several miles a day (often as fasted cardio first thing in the a.m.), elliptical, and cycling. Sadly no access to a pool or lake at my gym.

Mixing it up also keeps it from getting boring.

Some sports count as cardio too, like soccer, basketball...any sport with lots of moving and not a lot of timeouts and waiting between plays (football and baseball for example)

Also a 45 minute game of squash can be a great and fun cardio workout. You don't usually take a break when playing a 45 minute session. If you finish a game then go straight into the next without much/any rest.

Makes a change from staring at a wall/mirror/window and pounding the treadmill.
