Is it better to work out one muscle group ONCE a week instead of doing like M,W,F muscle groups ABC and then T,TH doing muscle groups DE? I am trying to get a good routine down and Im having trouble with it. As of now each time I go to the gym I only work out one muscle group. Then after each workout I do a little cardio/Ab work and run a mile or two. What do you guys think?

i would not at all advise doing one muscle group per week. it is much better to split them up throughout the week.

BAM, im an arse. I meant to type one muscle group ONCE per week. Like I would do arms on say monday and then not do arms again until the following week. So everyday im working only one muscle group and only once a week. sorry about the confusion.

I believe, the general consensus is to train each muscle group at least twice a week. If you train 5 days out of the week (M to F), you can use a 2-day or even a 3-day template and cycle as follows:
Day 1, 2,1,2,1....following week: 2, 1, 2 ,1 ,2
Give it a shot, see what works for you.
:)

i see...well each muscle group once a week is not a bad plan. some muscle groups are better trained once a week...legs and back are probably best left to once a week, and some people can only get away with doing chest once a week. smaller muscle groups, you may want to train twice a week.

Ok, and then would shoulders be considered part of "arms"? or would they be their own group?

shoulders are generally considered their own group, and sometimes the trapezius is put in that group
