ON Supplements: Whey vs. Pro Complex

Looking to up my caloric intake a little, as well as possibly cut back on a meal or two (I'm eating 7!!!) so I was looking at the Pro Complex which has 60g of protein vs. the 24g that the 100% whey has. It will not necessarily be a meal substitute, but the eating is killing my wallet, and I'm mainly looking at proteins in my meal, and the little extra bump in the shake sounds like a good "substitution" where I can eat only 5 meals, but get "just as much protein".

Is the Pro Complex as quickly and readily absorbed as the Whey is? Regardless, I will be mixing it with Casein at night for a slow absorption, but would like to know if the extra protein will just be pissed out along with the $10 extra it costs for the 5lb tub.

I know it's different proteins but how do they compare?

Nobody??

Calm down, it hasn't even been 24 hours! :D

Since you're mixing it with casein, than it doesn't matter all that much, because you're slowing down the absorption anyway. Clearly that's your objective at night, which is fine.

The only reason Pro Complex has 60g per serving is because they make the serving 2 scoops, and they ONLY do that so that you use their "recommended serving size" and buy more of their product. So first off, you don't need to use 2 scoops. Also, the protein in there is whey and egg. Not a huge difference from the just whey, but I'm always for a mix. Probably not worth the cost difference though.

I wouldn't recommend relying on a supplement for food. You shouldn't replace whole food with whey, as you are suggesting.

I can see how 7 meals is getting annoying, but just eat more during those times. The whole meal frequency thing is pretty much bonk (well, not exactly...but it's MUCH more a psychological thing).

What is your diet like now? Why can't you just add food instead?

My diet is consisting of primarily chicken (or lean meat), and grains such as rice, breads, etc...6 times a day. One of those meals (when I first wake up) is just an apple and peanut butter with a shake.

Part of the reason behind 7 meals is also to keep my metabolism up. It's already fast, but I've also exponentially increased my workload (gym time AND riding vs just riding my bike). I want to make sure I'm not losing mass during my cardio (and) biking sessions. I dunno if that's bonk as well, but it's been working thus far. In 6 days shy of two months, I've gains 6.5lbs of LEAN mass.

Ahh, see I thought it was ONE scoop that as 60g of protein, didn't see it was 2 scoops. I eat eggs in the morning, which is usually my more intense sessions (just kinda worked out that way), so getting the egg proteins isn't really a concern I guess. Fridays seem to be the only days where the evening is just as intense as the morning since it's also a legs session.

Thanks for the answer, it's helped a bunch. And it was more than 24 hours :p

Keeping your metabolism up is what I meant by it being a myth. It is. The thermic effect of food that you're getting is just at different times. It doesn't really mean all that much.

Ex: TEF is about 10% for most people, so take your example day vs. someone else who eats way less often. Assume 3000 calories.
[*]]If you eat 7 meals at 429 calories, that's 429 x .10 = 42.9 calories via TEF. 42.9 x 7 meals = 300 calories burned total.
[*]If you eat 4 meals at 750 calories, that's 750 x .10 - 75 calories via TEF.
75 x 4 meals = 300 calories burned total.
A long way to say...same thing

Oh my bad I thought that was the same day lol. But you're welcome.

Do you have any objection to just eating more and not using the whey so much? Because that's my ultimate suggestion.

Well, I only drink whey 3 times a day. Once in the morning when I wake. Once right after my work-out in the morning. Then the nightcap of casein and whey after my night session. Every other time is just food.

As far as eating more, just 5 meals but larger portions? Some days I only get to eat 3 times because we're so damn busy.

Yes just larger portions. Why are you supplementing so often? Keep in mind that whey IS a supplement. You shouldn't really be using it to replace food if you can avoid it. It's actually just a convenience and honestly, you don't even need it PWO. But anyway, you should just have real food and keep the Whey to PWO.

I'm not typing it clear. My apologies for the confusion. I reread my posts and realized that it looks like I'm "drinking a meal". No, they are supplements 3 times daily drank with a meal post workout, except the morning one, which is just with an apple.

No worries. I understand. I still don't think you should be supplementing 3 times a day. It's unnecessary and whole food always wins.

Whole food wins, but I'm hitting the gym quite a bit. I need all the help I can get, lol.

Haha yeah I hear you, but still. Just eat more. I personally think that routine needs to be totally scrapped and a new, professional, one adapted. But my guess is you're not willing to do that. Hoping that you are, and if so, do tell.
