Omega 3

I've been taking a fish oil supplement to lower my cholesterol. I take 1 capsule a day. The benefits are amazing in many ways.

My only concern is the vitamin E in it. I need 2-4 grams a day but each capsule contains 1.5 grams of the polyunsaturated fat.

If I take more than one do I need to worry about too much Vitamin E?

How much vitamin E is in per capsule? Do you have a link to the supplement?

You notice a difference with just taking one capsule?

not sure. It could be the overall work out/ diet plan. But since I started taking the Omega 3 I've felt even better.

Seems I'm a bit sharper mentally. But I need to get my HDL up a bit so thats the biggest reason I take them.

Ah, that's great that you notice a difference. Do you get any other form of Omega3s in your diet or Omega6s?

I eat a lot of spinach and other green veggies. I've also heard about flax seed oil.
What foods have the Omega 6? Thats one I haven't done a lot of research on.

Some greens have trace amounts of omega-3s.

Flax seed oil would be a great addition to your diet as long as it's balanced out with omega-6s.

Omega-6s are found in oils such as sesame oil, safflower oil, evening primrose, sunflower oil, walnuts (omega-3s are in walnuts too), wheat germ and a little in peanuts and pecans.

I have no idea what your diets like but you need a good ratio between omega-3s and omega-6s.

great thanks. I eat a good mix of nuts. Walnuts, almonds, etc. Not the cashews or peanuts though.

I usually have the steel cut grain cereal and a whey protein shake for breakfast

Lunch is a salad with spinach, red cabbage, radishes, red onions, carrots, chicken or turkey and a sprinkle of swiss cheese.

Dinner is your typical thing balanced with veggies and protein. I try to only eat red meat once a week tops. I also eat an apple or an orange for a snack in the afternoon.

thanks for the info Calcium. I'll look into the flax seed oil supplement.
much appreciated.

No problem :)

Just a quick heads up.

I've heard different opinions on what the ratio between omega-6s and omega-3s should be. It's typically thought that the ratio should be around 4:1 or 2:1 in favor of omega'6s. Some have said that it should be in favor of omega-3s (the Inuit had more omega-3s in their diet and were healthy). But getting too much of one fat can lead to a deficiency in the other so pay attention to your body. Perhaps having a ratio which strongly favors omega-3s (as you can accomplish with flax seed oil) will help you in the short run to fix your lifetime omega-3 deficiency but in the long run it can result in omega-6 deficiency.

Good luck!
