ok im kinda confused on how to tell if meat is ok to eat. lets take an italian sausage for example. for 1 serving, theres like 18protein, 14 fat, 4 saturated fat. so is the rest good fats? 10g good fats? are they required to show trans fats? how can i tell whether or not a meat is ok to eat besides always getting lean turkey sausage?

The rest have to be good fats. I bought a bag of peanuts with 30 grams of fat. 5 of them were listed as Saturated Fats. So the rest have to be good fats and we know peanuts have good fats. So yes the 10grams you mentioned are good fats. And they do have to mention trans fat.

The 10grams is split between omega-6 polyunsaturated and monounsaturated. The diet of the animals would be the deciding factor here...

The saturated and the omega-6 could be a concern. Also to truly tell you what you want we would need to know which "isomers" these fats are comprised of.

Most polyUnsats, and monoUnsats (like the ones in Nat. PB, flax) are good fats for ones intake of daily needs. Most saugage, once you do the math with calorie per gram with the grams of fat (and then consider the Sat. fat in it, which I believe ARE NOT GOOD), you learn fairly quickly it is HIGH. I stay away from polish saugage, unless there is a version of it that is more taylored to me goal, which I havent found yet. Omega-6 and 3's are generally good for you (flax and fish oils have it), but yes, if its coupled with far too much saturated fat, I would stay away from it.

I have taylored my diet where I virtually get no fat from animals (I know there is good clean steak, and pork, I just dont have in my diet for my owns reasons), with that said, I do eat clean baked chicken, fish (staple is fatty fish), and tend to favor chicken for two reasons (high protein, and virtually no carbs (like eating it before bed for an example). So I only get my fats from PLANTS (nuts, flax, etc). And has done fairly well. Does anyone know of a GOOD sausage, REALLY CLEAN and for real....low in fat?

Comparing the fats from Flax and PB for example to that fat which is primarily found in most meats is NOT a good comparison by any means.

Saying saturated fat is NOT good for you is wrong. Saturated fat is needed by the body at least to some degree. There for its only "NOT" good for you when over consumed.

Yes the polyunsaturated fats from fish and flax are great (fish being the "better") sources of omega-3 PUFA's. Again though thats NOT the same fat found in the food PB is asking about...

I guess you have your opinion and I have mine. I FLAT disagree with you. I believe SATURATED FATS ARE BAD. I virtually get NONE (and I am still breathing JUST FINE, THANK YOU). I never made SPECIFIC COMPARISONS: I was just stating the KIND of fats (UNSATS: POLY and MONO). Of course to a certain degree if the SOURCE FOOD is different then the composite may be different but in the end of things, they are STILL poly and mono unSATs (LOL), and poly and mono unSats are a far better choice. Saturated fat can fly off somewhere, my body doesnt need it, and Im still alive after a year and half (abit more) from REFRAINING from it. So, I respect your opinion, but my body DOESNT NEED IT and wont get it, peirod. (for the most part, because its hard to get rid of, but at least I know 99% of the time it is NOT in my diet or it is minimal at least.

Im not niave about my diet not to know that some have sat fat in it (like almonds, salmon, but small amounts), I refrain from it and that is that, and reccomend others to do so. And this is all I will say about this reletively useless arguement. The main point is poly and mono unSATS, are THE KING of good fats, PERIOD.

btw - this ' 1 serving ' ...do you know how many ' total calories ' and the total grams for 1 sausage ?

I agree with ( Silent ) ...the good fats are likely coming mostly from monounsaturated fats, and to a lesser extent, polyunsaturated fats.

Beyond that, the saturated fat is not as much a big deal on a ' per food item ' basis as it is from a % of daily calories basis. Reason being, the aim is to keep your saturated fat intake to under 7% ( at least according to the AHA ) of your daily total calories.

The other issue for concern of course is the high sodium content these processed meats have compared to some other protein choices.

thankyou it helps guys
