I'll try to give everyone as much info as possible without writing a book lol. I am 18 5'8" and about 215. I've added 5lbs because my last weight was about 210. I'm going to try and lose 60 lbs. I know I can't do that in 3 months because that would be about 5 lbs a week? I THINK however I don't really want to spend a whole year working out, This might change as I get started but I’m not very patient :( I however don't lack motivation! :D. Ok to the point, I use to LOVE running but I have bad knees and I’ve been told running isn't good for them :(. I don't mind walking, I live in the middle of know where and I have tons and tons of streets I can walk. I'm going to eat 1,200 cals a day and try walking, Sit-ups every other day, and some other things like that. I'm going to eat healthy and try to convert to drinking only water and maybe some power aid while I’m walking so I don't pass out lol.
Mostly I wanted to ask if there is anything else I can do? I'd LOVE to go to the gym but I’m one broke teen lol :D. I have no weights to lift but did do weight training about a year ago and didn't really enjoy it all that much. I have a DVD for dancing because I use to be on dance team but they are so so slow lol. I don't mind breaking a sweat but I’m not sure how to go about it at the moment. Any help or advice would be appreciated, I'll do my best to try anything once :D.

Oh and one last note (I hope this isn't inappropriate) but I’ve herd that if women do Pushups their breast will get smaller. I know this shouldn't matter but I don't want to shrink into nothing you know? Is this fact or false??
Thanx so much and sorry about the long post.

Hi and welcome. :)

The problem with this diet and plan is that you are starving yourself, it won't last and you will likely gain the weight back on. Take my advice, use your youth to your advantage, don't get trapped in the back and forth yo-yo diet game.

-Figure out your caloric needs
-eat 5-6 meals a day
-Try to eat whole unprocessed foods as much as possible
-Start to get in some physical activity
-make this a part of your life, not a punishment for the short term

Good luck and read around the forums for more help, start a journal even. Get ahead now! So you aren't paying for it later in the future.

Yeah, if you think 'I'll just lose weight and be done with it' it's going to come back...you need to integrate healthy eating and exercise into your lifestyle. It doesn't have to be a punishment. Eating healthy food and exercising will make you feel better about yourself, give yourself more confidence, and more energy to get through the day.

As far as diet goes, the commercially purchased bars (the special k bars, namely) are going to have a lot of processed ingredients in them, namely high fructose corn syrup. If you're serious about succeeding you should go for home-prepared, whole foods that are healthy and won't raise your blood sugar as much.

Fruits are good, and you've got plenty of fruits! Vegetables are good as well and it seems you have enough of those. However you are missing protein (!) and fats. Fats are not the enemy! As long as you're not eating the unhealthy ones (saturated/trans) or too much (of any kind) fats can be very healthy for you, especially EFAs. EFAs are the omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that are in the news all the time.

Protein is very important because if you don't get any protein you're going to be losing a substantial amount of muscle along with that fat...no one wants to look like a skeleton! For dinner you can fix this - have a high quality, lean meat...chicken, turkey, lean beef, or similar are all good choices.

ooo ok

Ok I can put in more chicken, However how am I starving myself? I'm eating 5 or so "meals a day" I guess I should eat a little more at each meal?? Forgive me as you can tell I'm pretty new :D. I love eating fruits and veggies so i'm lucky there :D. Also I live on a ranch with animals to take care of so I do get around a lot but of course i'm going to do more. I'm going to start walking every other day, Soing upper body work-outs (at home) and then lower body on the days that I don't do my upper body. Also at school during lunch, I'm planning on walking/jogging up and down some stairs we have by our football field on days i'm doing my lower body. I have some simple 5lbs weights I found that I can use while i'm doing my upper body.
So eat more just nothing processed and add more meat ok.
Thanx so much for the advice! :D.

Nazarath, 1200 cals are not enough, trust me. I tried a diet like that one and I ended up slowing my methabolism so much that I didn't lose any more weight.
Raise your calorie intake and exercise regularly, that's the best way to do it.

ok

I was told once before to eat no more/less than 1800cals while dieting? that sound like a better idea? I'm working my upper body today, Doing crunches and an arm workout to Music I use to do in dance for about 3 songs that around 3 minutes each then the sit ups take about 15... so i'm still trying to think of some other things I can do to make my work out a good 30 minutes. Also know one knows about the whole push-ups make "my" breasts smaller? sory if thats a dumb question but I figured I would ask :).
OH! I forgot to say I have horses :D So I ride every other day and it's a nice workout for the legs :D but I do other things along with riding :). Also I don't ride everyday but I ride at least 4 times a week.
Tomorrow my friend Anotio is haveing a B-day party. I know this seems to have no point but he lives about 3ish city blocks from me, so i've decided to walk there and not drive!! :D

Strange, I've noticed that lately after I've been walking, speed walking. (Also when I use to run) I start to cough, not a whole lot but it will be at least three for about 15 minutes after i've walked and i'm cooling down? maybe i'm not breathing right??

Most of the research I've read, there is not such thing as "spot reduction" exercises to reduce a specific area.

With your exercise you may lose a substantial part of body fat, which may effect the fat cells all over your body; including the fat tissue in your breasts.

So, in short, no, push ups shouldn't make your breasts shrink. If it does anything at all, it will make the MUSCLE behind the fat tissue more firmer.

what to do

Hi, I'm new to this forum and so glad to see the healthy advice here!

Nazarath, I can see why someone said you are starving yourself. It isn't only the number of calories but the food choices. As someone already said, staying away from processed food is one of the best things you can do. Your body needs nutrients and it isn't going to get them from special K cereal and bars.

You need to add whole grains. Adding fiber will help increase weight loss.

I lost 20 lbs this past year and a half by using the Glycemic Index (my husband had high blood sugar and it really helped him also). We stick to low Glycemic Index foods and only have a few of the higher ones, like white potatoes or corn, once in a while. We've both lost weight on this and didn't start ourselves at all.

I also agree that exercise is SO important to get the metabolism going. I have always walked but when I began focusing on losing some weight, I added about 20 minutes to my daily walk, bringing it up to one hour. (My dogs are thrilled!)

One tip I found useful is to focus on health instead of "diet". Nutrition and health are interesting and if you know why you should avoid sugar, for instance, like what sugar does to your body, you are more likely to stick with whatever plan you come up with.

Cutting calories for a few weeks won't help you lose weight permanenty. You have to change your health habits. Once you start losing weight and feeling better, you'll want to stick with it.
