I am wanting to loose weight, naturally, but I also want to start focusing on gaining muscles. I don't want to just look thin when i loose my weight, but i want some definition too, esp. in the arms.

Sooo...what do I do?? I'm very much a beginner, i have biggest looser dvd's. I dont' have access to a gym or money for equipment....soooo where do I start?? I know I want to do push ups for arm def. but i can only do the girly push ups...

OH...i do have an elliptical...will that be enough to really help? I can only do about 10 min's at a time, it kills me..how much should I do it for results??

anyways, any advice???

Newbride I would love to help you out.

First off, everyone can afford (even if they have to save) a set of dumbbells and a swiss core ball. So make getting these items number one on your list. Even if you have to buy one item at a time, I would start off with the core ball first. Then a set of adjustable dumbbells and you are good to go. All together it shouldn't be more than $60.00 and could be cheaper if you buy used at a local shop which are found in most cities.

Until then though, there are a few bodyweight exercises you can incorporate into your routine. A simple bodyweight routine would look like this...

All movements in a range of 3X12-15 or isometric holds in 30-60sec intervals

-Push ups (bent knee style)
-Lunges (walking, sumo, static)
-Squats (you can hold weighted objects to increase intensity as needed)
-Dips (stair, chair)
-Supermans (full body, flutters)
-Planks (full extension, elbows)
-Dog points

Using these movements alone should produce solid results until you can purchase some dumbbells and or a core ball. Obviously having only your body to use leaves for more challenging ways to varying your routines and takes a little more conditioning to do so.

I am a little short on time now but please let my know if you need any further information or any links on how to perform any of these exercises if you can't find them on your own.

I know people have a harder time with written instruction, but lacking the link right now, will try to pop one up tomorrow for the Dog Points.

thank you so much for the advice! the 2 items you suggested will be on my "to get" list! I'll need further instruction when I get those...but for now, what does this mean exactly....

I have no idea, lol. Also, I know what push ups are, and the lunges, but what is the difference between the 3 lunges you mentioned and what exactly are the other things you said? dips? planks? i have no idea other than the push ups and lunges, lol.

I do apologize for my lack of understanding, i've never been interested in building muscle before!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time!!

I think it's really cool that even moderators (the gods of WLF..lol) can ask for advice. It just goes to show we're really all in this together. It's heartening..

Sorry it's nothing to do with the thread, but I just thought to make that point :) Plus Leigh's helping out anyway so...

Thanks RR, i'm just a person too, trying to loose weight :)

I saw the link about about supermans but i'm still lost about the other things!
