Oil supplements????

I was shopping for a multi-vitamin today, since I figured I need some...

Anyways, I came across "salmon oil", flaxseed oil, and various other type of oil pills. Can someone help me out? Are these good? Should I take them? What do they do?

There rich in the essentail fats omega 3 and 6. There vital for the brain, nervous system, immune system, CV system and skin. I've never heard of anyone taking them as a excercise supplement, but lack of these fats is generally bad all round for your health.

You should get about 7% of your calorific intake from these fats (20% from all fats) with routhly equal split between omega 3 and 6, a little more of omega 6 if anything.

There generally found in oily fish, nuts and seeds. If your get plenty of these (especially oily fish) then your probably getting enougth.

So, wait. I found a bunch of supplements. Relatively cheap too I guess, hence why I am thinking of purchasing them.

There is fish oils, and then there is specific omega 3 and 6 supplements. Which do I go with?

*shrugs*

Fish oils may not have an ideal ratio of omega 3 to 6, depending on the fish, the omega specific supplements may not be as good quality or easily as absorbable, depends what's gone into them.

Personally i just have a mixture of pumpkin, sesame, sunflower and flax seeds on my cerial in the morning, that gives me my required omega 3 and 6 for the day.

Bryn do you grind your seeds? I read that they will pass through your digestive tract without being absorbed if not ground first, in say, a coffee grinder.

yeah i put them in a coffee grinder for a couple of seconds. They actually make the cerial taste nicer, but that's not difficult with all bran :(

all bran sucks. try Fiber One. as I recall, All Bran contains High Fructose Corn Syrup, and I've heard it tastes like moldy twigs ;)
