Obese male and exercising

Hello all, new to the site here. Just posted a little background on myself in the newbies tab but had a quick question. I am 23 years old and currently weigh 317 lbs. I have been pretty active throughout my education years playing several sports and enjoying the outdoors in the mountains of north carolina where I live. Quick question, I have been advised not to over do exercising. I went on a run the last two days and was easily able to job for a mile or mile and a half in the early morning. Although I also have free time in the evening and would love to exercise then as well. I am very focused on losing this weight. What are some complications with exercising once in the morning for 30 mins and once in the evening for 30 mins at the current size I am. Also maybe instead of running in the evening are there some in home exercises or things I could do that would be helpful for a male 23 year old weighing 317lbs. Although I have nothing against yoga I feel like I would be a little more comfortable doing something else. Maybe you know of a good workout video on netflix instant stream for guys or a good workout routine I can do at home. If not would it be safe to run twice a day, everyday at my size. Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully respond.

I think that working out twice a day for 30 minutes sounds like a good start, I'm no fitness expert but i would recommend talking with a fitness trainer or a doctor before you start any kind of intense exercise. going for a jog a few times a week shouldn't be too bad but i would definitely recommend going to consult a fitness expert and at least get a good plan as far as increasing the length and intensity of your workouts.

ATalk to a doctor; running at a heavy weight can put a lot of strain on your heart, so you might want to avoid that until you lose some of it.

Have you tried just walking and dieting? They are some of the most effective things you can do to lose weight at that weight.

Thats a good point i worked with a guy that lost somewhere around 85 pounds just walking taking the stairs and eating better.

I'd be worried about the impact to your feet and knees if you're talking about running. I'm in the 300+ club, myself, but 38 years old, and I always have issues with the knees and feet. Mind you, if you're sticking to it and losing weight, you'll probably heal any minor injuries as you lose the weight.

I've been using an indoor rower with great success. It's quiet enough that I can watch TV and not need the volume set to 11. 45 - 75 minutes a day, 5 days a week, gradually increasing the intensity and monitoring my heartrate. 3rd week of losing 3 lbs/week.

Good luck!

Congrats on the weight loss! Sounds like you're doing great!
