Hi,

I notice in a lot of diets people eat oats for breakfast and I hardly see bread written down.
Am I missing something important about oats?

The only time I eat oats are when I make Anzac cookies (aka flap jacks) but these are not very healthy as there's a lot of butter and sugar involved.
I tried making a porridge once to settle my morning sickness, but how would you make it tasty without adding loads of sugar?

Teach me, teach me about oats :D as most of you seem to choose this over bread

my breakfast consists of chocolate cereals always :p

Oatmeal is a great source of fiber, which can regulate blood sugar levels and reduce cravings. It fills you up really nicely. There's also vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and a good amount of protein in it. Oats are complex carbs, so they also fill you up for a longer amount of time.

If you eat them, however, don't use the instant oats. They're considerably less healthy. You also shouldn't use sugar with it. Just chop a banana in there, if you want it to be a little sweeter.

I'd say that oatmeal is pretty great, overall. :)

Thanks
I just read the nutrition value. They have a good amount of magnesium also which is something I need to think about since I needed supplements for this before. Bananas, I should eat more of those also.

So they are definitely better than bread? I was thinking of making them and adding apple compot (mushed apples) with a sprinkle of cinnamon? Sounds healthy right?

What are non instant oats.
At the supermarkets here in France I only ever see one brand on the shelf and I'm sure they are instant oats (rolled oats they are) I may have to go to a bio health food shop. They tend to have the buckets of oats, seeds etc etc that you can choose from.

Yes, the packet says avoine but not sure for oatmeal, I've never heard of the French making oatmeal or porridge. That's why I'm stuck on non instant oats lol

Edit::
I found for porridge = gruau d'avoine
Oatmeal = falcons d'avoine

They are very tasty in biscuits, cereals, bread etc, making porridge can be hard though and bland. I'm hoping if I cook them and add compot it will be yummy.

The biggest benefit is lowering cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease. Keeps you feeling full longer and it provides a good source of energy when you're exercising. Just eat it at least one hour before.

I eat oatmeal every morning and use it as a preworkout meal every day and I love it.

- 1 cup oatmeal
- half a banana
- random amounts of frozen mixed berries
- soy milk
and blend!

Thanks, that sounds like a recipe I can do,
Lowering cholesterol, this means I may be able to talk hubby into eating it as well :D
He's very healthy but his cholesterol is sometimes too high.

Eating oats is an healthy habit as its good for reducing cholesterol making heart healthy, Also oats has high fiber content that helps in weight loss. Overall consuming at least one bowl of oats a day will make you healthy by heart.

Thx,
I'm going to trade my morning toast for oats. I'll wait till baby is born though as I'm hot tired and lazy at the moment :-/

Not on their own, on their own they are very plain and bland tasting.
They do taste great with a lot of brown sugar but this is a no no for us lol

I'm going to try it with apple compot and or yogurt. I think these things will make it tastier in a healthier way than sugar.

I agree that oatmeal really works as fiber enriched it helps us digest easily and is also good for the heart.

There is nothing like a bowl of oatmeal in the morning to give you the energy to start your day. Oatmeal contains fiber and protein, which will keep you fuller, longer and has also been found to reduce cholesterol. Add honey instead of sugar to make your bowl of oatmeal taste sweet and yummy. Also add fruits that you love to your oatmeal bowl.

Also you can have a stuffed oatmeal into your whole wheat bread. Grill the bread using olive oil instead of butter and add a boiled egg to it. Tastes amazing and healthy too.

Always go for brown bread for weight loss..

There is a difference between brown bread and wholemeal bread. Wholemeal bread is healthier than brown bread.
